Yep, RIP Terry Venables.

Certainly was not a ‘Leeds great’, nowhere near it, but he never stood a chance under Ridsdale and the financial meltdown. In other circumstances, who knows?

Just a comment LIW and OP both preferred deleted. So just tidied it up for them.

Sad news indeed! My work colleague at the time he was our Manager called him ‘Verry Terribles’ which still makes me chuckle.

Ridsdale sold him a right dummy.

If he'd had the money to spend instead of O'Leary I think history may well have been different & we'd have won something.

RIP.

He was a terrible appointment for us - him and Peter Reid. It was a terrible time for LUFC. Ridsdale will always be an utterly clueless [expletive beginning with w...or any other expletive you fancy].

Even so, El Tel was a great character and I didn't realise on reading his obit that he was in the frame for selection for the 66 World Cup games. I actually enjoyed England games when he was coach.

RIP Terry Venables.

Though he never really felt right for Leeds, Venables was, in his own way, one of English football’s legends. RIP El Tel.

Wasn't down to me to be fair, just reigned him in on what I thought was a misplaced comment that he perhaps should have kept to himself on a sad day by repeating his words back at him.
Humbly apologise.

always sad news to hear of somebody passing. obviously condolences to his family

Great career, had an impact on many players and people in his time. Not for Leeds of course.

RIP El Tel

Always liked him. Proper character. Not a good fit for Leeds at that time but to be honest who would have been?

RIP

Very sad news, he gave us something special in 96 (that Holland match!) and just listen to teh players talking about him, they cant speak highly enough about him.

forgettable time at Leeds, am sure Riddle will say it's not his fault, but it felt like he didn't support Venables in the slightest.

If you ever get to hear Venables talk about Jimmy Greaves pre match diet, its a nice little must watch.

RIP El Tel.

Seemed like a decent bloke and the players obviously loved him.

Didn’t work out for us but more the owners fault than his I think.

Fun times with England though.

RIP

Thought he was one of the best British coaches.

Sad news. RIP TV.
