Would be surprised if that isn't the order come May.

With 5 teams making top 4 this year does that mean 6th place finishes 5th, 7th place finishes 6th and 8th place finishes 7th cos of extra European spots?

This could be great news for United if we finish 8th cos as we know that means we actually finish 7th, and as above we can see that 7th place actually finishes 6th, but then again 6th place actually finishes 5th, and this year 5th place gets top 4. So all United need to do to finish 4th, is finish 8th.

Top three picks itself.

Fourth will be either Newcastle, Villa or Spurs

posted on 4/12/23

I think (hope) Spurs' lack of Europe will see them get 4th over the line.

The opposite will impact on the ability of Villa to stay the course. NUFC have a better squad than Villa but may also struggle to fight on more than 1 front.

I do not think United will be anywhere near the top 4 and have a sneaky suspicion that Chelsea will over take them before the season is out.

"Can’t decide (between Tottenham / Utd)"

Assuming that's Newcastle

Can't see any way we get top 4, we're not even in the top 6 teams in the league at present and you could argue that is even generous.

I'd go Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool as the top 3.

Newcastle, Spurs and Villa fighting for 4th ( /5th assuming that gets Champs League) and that could come down to injuries and midweek cup/European fixtures.

Brighton have fallen off the radar a bit at the moment and Chelsea are just too hit or miss.

Tbf you do somehow scrape wins against bottom half sides which liverpool didn't do last year which is how you got top 4.

Probably because they don't think they'll win the league

Aston Villa have averaged just under 2 points a game since Emery took over midway through last season. And just over 2 PPG so far this season. Enough for a CL place during most seasons.

Liverpool are going through one of those insane seasons where they are "impossible" to beat.

City, as usual, are still the "formula" everyone rates themselves against.

Arsenal have settled into their own version of the Roman army's Tortoise formation. They went into the weekend having faced the lowest amount of shots on target, and having created the 4th lowest amount of shots on target at the other end. They've scored the lowest amount of goals in the current Top 4 , and have conceded the least.

United have struggled with key injuries, but are still well within touching distance of Top 4 pace. They will be back to business as soon as a couple more faces regain their fitness.

Tottenham? No comment.

Newcastle - Still chasing titles on all fronts with a settled (but strained) squad.

Chelsea - Top 4? Why not? All the ingredients are in there somewhere. It's only a matter of time before Pochettino stumbles on a winning lineup.

Predictions?

1. Liverpool
2. City
3. Arsenal
4. Villa

Top three picks itself in what order depends a lot in January. If Liverpool got a decent defensive midfielder then they may fight for the league if they don't then I don't see them challenging. If we get a goalscorer then I think we'd have a good chance but even if we don't I still think we'd be in with a chance given that we've proved last season we are good enough. With regards to 4/5 at the moment Villa and Newcastle would be my bet. That could change depending on what happens with Tottenham they need two or three good additions in January. Just getting their injured players back is not enough, not being able to rotate players like Son will come back to haunt them.

Arsenal have a real chance of winning the league – the league of teams that aren't called Manchester City or Liverpool, that is

If we get any sort of good luck with injuries from now on out I suspect we will get top 4, Only Arsenal and Liverpool have put daylight between us in this difficult time.

With Romero back now and Richarlison, and is being a month away from Maddison and Van der ven it feels like it’s starting to turn again and a win over West Ham on Thursday and I think we are away.

Villa have City midweek, I suspect we will be back above them by the end of the weekend and I fancy we won’t let the situation reverse itself again. Despite high profile wins against us and Chelsea, generally they struggle away from home and can be got at - I fancy that to cost them.

Newcastle are very good, I just fancy they will go far in the Europa and might put alot of their eggs in that basket. Should get 5th.

United look dead and Chelsea will improve but not enough - also seem to be losing their heads in games now as well.

1. City - they will win 15 on the bounce if they need to
2. Liverpool - much better this season
3. Arsenal - won’t maintain a title challenge like last year
4. Spurs - If injury luck changes
5. Newcastle - should be a CL spot
6. Villa - drop too many points against shiete away
7. Chelsea - improving
8. United - ETH won’t be manager at the start of next season

Yeah they are good but they are not in the same league as the other two. We might have a situation where City really underperform this season - but I would fully expect Liverpool to exploit that rather than Arsenal.

Arsenal for me lack that truly special, world class player, Haaland, KDB, Salah. It’s the missing piece for them as much as some of them think Odegaard or Saka is it - they ain’t.
