In a nutshell, good article!

We'll be in the mix for top 2 all season long. We won't drop imo. If it is playoffs, atleast we'll be able to rest key players for a couple games as we should have a playoff spot garunteed early if we keep this pace.

I've flipp flpped over our automatic promotion chances reaching high optimistic levels after Blackburn but this last couple of games has hammered home to me the likelihood that top 2 is looking like a pipe dream because Ipswich and Leicester are much more consistent than us and I can live with that and if we go up via the playoffs then maybe that is our rightful destiny this time after so
many play off disappointments.

I personally think this weekend is the crux one way or the other if we win we still have a chance of catching Ipswich anything else even with half the season to go I will be very surprised if Ipswich and Leicester don't occupy the automatic places.

I'm pretty chilled about it so yes I can't help myself as a fan wanting Leeds to win every game but looking at our issues at the back and in the middle and up top is plenty concern for me to see we're facing an uphill battle to get any higher than 3rd this season.

Am going to ask a question.

How many goals have we had from these players

Ie midfield

Roca
adams
Ampadu
Kamara
Gray
Greenwood
Mckennie
Aaronson
Gyabi
Gruev

Since beginning of last season ?

Klich was superb in that aspect. We miss his goals and assists from CM

Despite my comments above doubting our ability to make top 2 now, I do think if Gray joined Ampedu and Kamara in midfield and one of the front 4 made way we'd be more consistent but DF seems to just like more of a midfield 2 with Piroe dropping back in there which to me seems odd.

Therefore because of that example which I think creates
an inbalance along with using a right back at Left back
and Archie at RB these are issues or obstacles that
Ipswich and Leicester for example don't have and so I
think we're too vulnerable to being negated by the
opposition now and relying on some worldy stuff from
Rutter and Summerville and James to get us out of jail.

Think Macca has it.

It's the team set up. If you're going to play 2 DMs or CMs in holding roles you don't really expect goal contributions from them. They're there to allow Farke to play 4 attackers.

Not saying that's right or wrong just how it is.

There's an argument to drop Piroe and play a more creative 10 or an additional more attack minded midfielder. We might see some goal contributions from midfielders, we'd also likely not leave a gap you could drive a bus through in transition. But would we be more effective? Hard to say. We're third in the league and one of the top chance creators.

But we have been consistent 🤷🏻‍♂️

We need more goals in the side, not less

After our start to the season coupled with Leicester/Ipswich extraordinary starts, too many games became ‘must wins’ too early in the campaign. The pressure valve popped and here we are with 1 point out of the last 6. Sure, we must beat Ipswich to have any chance of catching them but even then, they and/or Leicester will have to implode. Ain’t gonna happen.

Implode ?

If we beat Ipswich, we’d be 7 points behind with half a season left, and they play leicester after us.

They will have dips, just need to get back on a run, and claw it back

Yep. So, Ipswich losing to us then Leicester when they’ve only lost 2 games all season so far, seems like a serious downturn in form for them (I used the word implode, happy with other words to bear used). And then, if we beat Preston away (to take advantage of Ipswich losing to Leicester), we’d still be 4 points behind them. Ipswich would then need to lose again in quick succession for us to claw back. Yep, it could happen, let’s hope it does, but just can’t see it.

We keep dropping points. Sunderland were bang average, Coventry are mid table, we couldn't beat Rotherham or winless Sheff Wed earlier on. To catch Ipswich we need to go on an 7, 8 game winning run at some point, which looks impossible for us right now. We look tired, lack depth and can't keep clean sheets. Won't get 2nd with those attributes.

Ipswich couldnt beat rotherham, neither could sheff wed.

These things happen, its football.

We’ve had two bad games, after getting 28 points from 33 possible.

Not sure its a 10 we need as we already have them with Rutter and Piroe although Piroe is not very creative at all.

Think we need that fox in the box striker myself. Someone who can pop up with goals. We miss the Pukki in Farkes system. Make Rutter 10 or Piroe. We could rotate. We can now to be fair but he doesn't

After Boxing day we could be anywhere from 4 points to 16 points behind the top 2...absolutely critical that we get on a winning streak.

"Yep. So, Ipswich losing to us then Leicester when they’ve only lost 2 games all season so far,"

But we've only lost 4, there is no reason why anyone in this league can't have a bad run, the same as anyone behind could make a last minute dash!..

All we can do is take each game as it comes, Farke has his bit to do but if he gets it right then the players should!..

Some game this Brum v Leicester.

If the top 2 is already a given, we might as well stop the season now - strange thinking.

Yes consistent enough for 3rd but not as consistent as Ipswich and Leicester in other words I don't think we are consistent enough to capture a top 2 place with the way the team is set up currently but Farke may surprise us all and revert to a more orthodox system that I think Leicester and Ipswich are doing with 3 recognised midfielders instead of our 2 holding ones.

Having said all that that forward 4 is capable of producing a breathtaking demolition of any championship defence if everything clicks but unfortunately that just doesn't look like happening that often but it wouldn't surprise me if we beat Ipswich 4 nil but then lose 1 nil to Preston and that I think is the problem.

No the top two isn't a given. But I believe Leicester finishing top is. Should we lose to Ipswich, then I think our chance of 2nd place is growing dim. However, Ipswich play Leicester in a couple of weeks - should Leicester win, that opens up the proverbial can of worms.

What bugs me is that as far as I'm aware, Farke hasn't tried Piroe in the 9 role - I may be mistaken but didn't we buy him as a No 9?

posted on 18/12/23

I think Lorra you me and everyone else thought Piroe would be used as a traditional centre forward target man/goal poacher but it appears his 20 odd goals for Swansea last season were scored in the position Farke is playing him in or that's what DF has told us but lately opponents are nullifying him quite easily in a Leeds shirt so clearly you would think something different needs to be tried.
