Apart from the 3pts I don't think we learnt anything much from this game. I doubt the opposition comes any weaker than this, Birmingham a shocking team, no direction or confidence. Some say Firpo did ok but was giving the ball away willy nilly. He can't defend for toffee, constantly out of position, rarely fussed to track back and Mr clumsy when he does. We need much better and hopefully we'll get it.
Dan James is frustrating at times but well worth his place in the team. Turning out to be a decent all round player at this level.
Agree, Archie has to be playing midfield, has so much to offer.
Still have a great chance of automatic promotion but need a few in and to sharpen the tools we already have.

Spot on Werb, Birmingham were awful. We grew into the game, but we lack cohesion and precision, especially in the opposition half. For teams who can put up any kind of block, we are a gift from heaven. Cardiff will be a much tougher challenge in a fortnight and if Firpo plays a high line, he will get caught out.
The number of times we gave the ball away is a worry for me. Rutter is a prime culprit, but DJ and Gnonto are not far behind. We do need a creative midfielder, but we neeed to work on holding the ball more effectively too. Overall, a good result, one we can build on, but we are not on for automatic promotion with the current coach and the current squad.

Farke commented after the game that Bamford had stepped up his performances in training and that's why he was picked. You could certainly see the improvements in him in the last match - I hope he can keep it going as Piroe needs some competition and we need options up front.

Not getting too excited about a home win against a struggling side.

We really need another three Rodons if we can get them to fix the defence. I'm sure there's a hack for Football Manager to do that...

Rooney been sacked apparently?

Brum already sacked a manager that found his feet. Then took on another who hasn't seen his in a while.
Cooper would be a dream signing for them but very much doubt he'd want that job.

Team against peterbrough will be interesting.

Also, note that we don’t have another weekend + midweek game until February and then one again in March - mostly one game a week. Suits us. Farke doesn’t like to rotate anyway so works in our favour playing the strongest 11. Autos still on for me

To say we arent on for autos is ridiculous. Ipswich and Southampton will have further wobbles. We can still do it. Plenty to play for.

Autos looks a stretch if we are honest. Agree that there are still plenty of points to go for but as we have seen even when Ipswich have a wobble Saints step in. Added to that we also lack consistency so even when those above slip up we often do so as well.

So in summary still a chance for auto and we will keep striving for it but will need something exceptional to achieve it, both Ipswich and Southampton to falter and us to go on an incredible run.

Don' think we need an incredible run. Just a bit better than we are doing. We've shown we have most of the ingredients, just need a few more in and a tweak or 2.
Another 20 games to find improvement

Glass half full, LIW, I like it. What are we like away from home?

I believe Ipswich are on the way down from this point, and it's Southampton who are our main contenders for 2nd place. It's doable, but only if we improve our consistency.

That’s the way I see it too. Southampton will catch Ipswich, we are 4 points off Southampton…we need a good winning streak.
Leicester have had 9, 5 and 4 game winning streaks.
Ipswich’s best is 4 games (3 times).
Southampton have had 4, 3 and 2.
Our best is 3 games (3 times).

Which every team at home has done bar Ipswich, and we’ve domolished them.

Away from home, we have just given it away, conceded first and made it hard.

After just 3 games this season we were 7 points behind Leicester and Ipswich, and 5 points behind Southampton...after some ups and downs we are basically at the same point. Increase intensity going forward, overlapping wingbacks, get behind these teams applying the low block.

I honestly think the penny has dropped with Farke - Rutter is better as a 10 than a 9. His ball over the defender for the third goal was just brilliant. Had that been Pablo we would still be drooling over it.

He has to start both him and Bamford in those positions next game. Piroe can have a rest and come on when his lack of pace might not be so obvious.

Plus Firpo has earned his next start. He was awesome going forward.

Watch the highlights of the first goal, it shows exactly why Bamford is a number 9.

When Gray gets the ball he looks at Bamford for the pass but Bamford points to James on the wing instead, James then gets a great cross un which Bamford gets on for the goal.

Bamford can lead the line as a number 9 better than anyone, it's always been a major one of his strengths, reason why we always looked so organised when he was up top.

Strikers need to do more than just score

Matty clearly you don't think that either Piroe or Rutter can do this but do you think Batty understands this?
