Rashford - cutting him some slack

I'd happily be depressed and suicidal if I was on £350k per week. Don't care what anyone says about money not making you happy. I guarantee you that if I was depressed but on £350k per week then I would be happy.

Spot on Diafodil.

Everyone is so quick to anger/hatred these days... The abuse he's getting on social media is insane. Would be enough to send anyone a bit crazy.

ETH has said the issue is dealt with, so we should all move on and hope for the best for Rashers.

Cut him some slack?

Seriously he has just signed a contract giving him 350k+ plus per week!

If he want some slack, he should walk and turn his contract in.

I do agree that footballers these days are sadly not given much slack or sympathy. I guess footballers used to be far more relatable which is why people were/are so attached to the sport but with the money pumped into the game and the scrutiny they're under these days it's not quite the same. They're closer to film/music stars but unlike those they're expected to uphold a certain level of professionalism and when they don't the media lay it on hard.

Rashford is unique in that he's become a football superstar (domesically at least) but without really ever being good enough, I guess the brilliant work he did with the school lunches propelled him to that level plus the way he exploded into the first team. I think being a local lad United have tried to pin him as the icon of the club which is why we've given him such an absurdly large contract and with that comes the scrutiny when he's not performing (which is far too often).

I hope he's ok mentaly, I'm not really sure tbh, neither do any of us. He's looked lost on the pitch for a while but I can imagine being at this club for the time he has must be pretty demoralising for any player.

Rashord seems to be at his best when he doesn't have to think much, relying on his explosive pace and taking chances relatively quickly. The problem is if his head's not right it must be hard to get into the flow. I'm not really sure what he can do, maybe a move away would do him good.

Slack starts at £200k per week and under. Reduce his wage to under that, then we will show support to him and try and get him to not kill himself. £200k+ per week then he can off himself as far as we should be concerned. The rest of us would do anything to get the level of happiness £200k+ per week brings.

This must play a part, for sure.

Only him and Shaw have really been a part of first team through all the ups and downs of the post SAF era (bar the Moyes part). So he has been on the receiving end of nearly a decade of expectations and stick.

First Lingard, then Sancho and now Rashford depressed. Martial is permanently depressed so might as well add him too. Is there something they're feeding the wingers in Carrington that's effecting their mental health?

I made my opinions pretty clear on the subject on another thread, but on the mental health aspect I’d like to add something. I had a bit of a hard time in the last few months and I’ve been seeing a therapist, and the main thing that’s come out of it for me is if you make smart decisions then things generally improve.

Hopefully, someone around Marcus is telling him this and I really hope he’s ok, but going on a 12 hour binge the day before training and then calling in sick is far from a smart decision.

Hopefully he’s learnt his lesson however.

Get rid. Unprofessional and not worth the agg.

I can imagine lots of players, especially ones who aren't settled with a family have a pretty unhealthy entourage that do nothing to help them off the pitch. Having that much money and time on your hands at such a young age can't be an easy thing to handle.

I remember reading SAF wanted his players to be married and settled as it keeps them going off the rails and doing stupid things....unless you're Giggs, but to be fair to him, despite his off the field issues, he was still professional on the pitch.

Barry smashing it out of the park today.

As for Rashford, it does appear he's going through something. It's up to Ten Hag to get to the bottom of it, is the United bubble a factor in his happiness, would a move help all parties? I think at this stage my outside perspective would be that it appears so.

He's clearly got talent, he also looks like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders, everything he does is magnified because he's the hometown hero. A parting of ways that gave United a good return and him playing in a reduced spotlight under less pressure at a Chelsea, Newcastle or Spurs might re-ignite him and allow United to invest elsewhere.
