I guess they assume some people can’t get or don’t pay for the BBC.

But the Beeb don't have the dream team of Bryn Law and Ben Parker, sells it to me.

If there are certain box ticking commentator/pundits used for this game by the beeb then the mute/off button will definitely be utilised by alot of viewers so I can understand why this service is being advertised.

I'm amused by the comments about box ticking commentators and pundits.
The likes of Joey Barton are constantly vilified across the media. But the responses to articles on the matter indicate that the vast majority of viewers agree with his sentiments.
Whilst there are some excellent women presenters and reporters, it looks suspiciously like BBC and Sky are hiring box tickers for the sake of it, some of whom are comically bad. Hopefully they will be rewarded by falling viewing figures.

Yep, my guess is that if the men’s game had piggy-backed on the success of the women’s game, the men’s game would have been accused of appropriation.

Have to agree with this.

though I do think the media struggle to try and tick the boxes whilst being consistant.

I don't mind the womens game at all. enjoyed the world cup etc but the media are cringe worthy, essentially its a different sport entirely, but the media seem to want to make comparisons only when it suits...

"that shot was more powerful than any shot in the men's game this season" etc etc..

however, that Stamp for example, absolute disgrace... losing the world cup final with a gutless performance, yet the lioness were lauded as heros,,, hang on, im pretty sure if the mens team had a player sent off for a stamp of that nature, then bottled a final (which they were clear favourites to win) the knives would be out for the mens team, manager sacked, the lot.

lets be consistent across the board, then I think true acceptance would happen.

I enjoy watching top quality sport that I marvel at the skill on display because it is something I couldn't get anywhere close to emulating that includes a lot of Women's sport including tennis, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, skiing, ski jumping, horse racing, hockey, golf, ice skating
and all winter Olympic events even curling.

Women's football, cricket and rugby to me are no where near at elite level and I think I find it a struggle to take it
seriously but I accept it's great the opportunity and
platform is there but it's been hyped up and pushed into
the mainstream way way beyond justification in an
attempt to forcably get accepted as an equal in
importance to the mens game which clearly is what winds up and grates on the large majority of top level
football loving supporters.

Also it feels like the men's game has been hijacked and
emasculated to suit an agenda when for example I
adore women in every shape and size but sometimes it's
nice to have 90 minutes of misogynistic male only
football time without female tones trespassing on that
time...Just leave us that last bastion of male bonding without turning the men's game into something resembling an episode of "Loose Woman" and the men can do likewise and not trespass on the women's game.

From a purely tennis perspective I disagree.

Some of the women, Ostapenko for example hit the ball harder than the men.

The quality of women's tennis is as good as the men's.

What gets focussed a lot on though is pay gap.

It is not equal pay for most tournaments, where both sexes play bet of 3, yet at majors where mean play best of 5 sets and women play best of 3, they get paid the same.

The reality is men's tennis brings in more viewers and therefore more revenue.

Jonty, interesting point ref Tennis, however I've always seen Tennis (righly or wrongly) as a women's sport anyway, maybe because the womens game is far more interesting to watch because of the rally's, in the mens game it seems all about the service game. if a mens players is exceptionally powerful with his serve, he'll win.

I've never been into Tennis so I can only say it as I see it.

Our national women footy team, got beat by our national team of boys 14/15 years.

Says it all, really.

Though I have to say that women should of course play footy, if they want to, but don't expect every man and his horse to give it thumbs up, when it comes to quality.

And it is only right that men earn more. It is all about interest, and the revenue it brings

Agree

in different countries though its different... in the states for example, football (or Soccer) is seen as a woman's sport... so you'd totally expect punditry there to include the ladies.. that seems far more natural than having a member of the lioness's on the panel of a big premier league clash in the mens game.

all for ladies football as I keep saying, my daughter is 12 and loves her football...

we need the media to stop making silly comparisons on essentially two different sports, and be consistent with criticism for both games

also with expectations..

Mens England team competing with sensational teams, main sport for most countries, most money ploughed into it across the globe. but yet we lose in a semi final and the media go for them!

the ladies, England and USA, and Spain should be getting into finals/semis every single time, no excuses. - they get beat in a final with a gutless performance and they are lauded as heros.
