Worst XI of the season so far...

I don’t think it’s just a United thing, virtually every team seem to have far more injuries than seem normal.

Not sure why, but wouldn’t be surprised if modern football boots play a part. I’m not sure slippers are a particularly good choice of footwear when you’re constantly kicking a ball or other people.

Not too much to disagree with in the OP imo.

I’d have Turner in goal at Forest. Absolutely shiiiiiiiiiiiit.

I’d be tempted to have Tonali in ahead of Fernandez. An absolutely horrific transfer all things considered.

A stop start season during Covid coupled with a quite frankly ridiculously timed WC is my guess.

My (very) unscientific opinion is that footballers are like elastic bands nowadays in that they work best when near breaking point. They're so fit nowadays compared to a few years ago when some used to carry a bit of timber. It doesn't therefore take much of them to snap.

I believe SAF went against some medical wisdom when signing Steve Bruce and looked at the amount of appearances he's made as a sign of his durability. I know we're 37 years on from then but there could be something in that.

On the injury front though because United have had so many at the start of the season we may actually end the season strongly because a lot of these players won't have many games in their legs. It could be a factor in how our season turns out. What would help as well is killing games off earlier so we could make full use of the five subs. We could really do with our players not having to play at maximum intensity for the whole 90 minutes!

That’s a good point actually. Footballers are more like highly tuned racehorses these days, rather than a few overweight shire horses back in the day!

Definitely played a part, but shouldn’t really be affecting them as much now, should it?

It’s just been stop start, stop, start with no real pre seasons or proper breaks for the top players.

Hamstring and muscular injuries everywhere.

Casemiro furthering his case today.

United are a better side when Cas plays, so it doesn’t really follow that he’d be in the worst team of the season.

He was facking woeful today.

The booking and subsequent appeals ruined his game. He had to let people run past him.

Cas has had some form lately which saves him. If you were going by earlier in the season I’d definitely have him though, and he had a shocker today too.

He should have been sent off again.
