Shaw

Reggie should have been kept on, Shaw was recovering from a 3 month injury and gambling on him being fit for the rest of the season backfired. This club just loves to fack up time and time again

AWB at RB and Dalot at LB isn't a disaster but we'll obviously miss Shaw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bisakka is injured as well and no one knows when he'll be back

That’s bloody annoying. Not just for United but for England at the Euros as well, we don’t have good alternatives.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chilwell, then who... Mitchell / Dan Burn maybe?

Yeah not great options there
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chilwell will be injured so we can forget him.

Colwill has played there but doesn’t look good. Will be probably be Trippier but I don’t like him at left back.

Will be interesting to see if Joe Gomez can keep a spot in the Liverpool team at left back now Robertson is fit. Could be an outside chance of him getting a call up to play in multiple positions, including left back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah yeah forgot Trippier plays there sometimes.

Need to use the March friendlies to look at some options.

I know. I was just thinking if we can get through to the international break we hopefully have him back after then. Such a shame on Shaw but not a major surprise either.

It's all hindsight really. At the time we let go of Fernández (and Reguilon), Shaw was back, Malacia was actually due back soon and AWB was back which freed up Dalot for the left. I think the bigger question is why on Earth we risked Luke Shaw on Sunday.

AWB is about 4 weeks away apparently. We can write off the derby (which we likely would have lost anyway), but if we get a result in the other 3 very winnable fixtures we have until the international break, this becomes more manageable with Martinez and AWB back (provided they don't break down again which is of course quite likely). Those fixtures will still be a struggle though, no doubt.

Re. Antony at LB - would be a disaster.

Bloody comedy to play him that Luton game.

Yeah just annoying we’ll have to experiment so close to a tournament.

Not keeping Reggie on for his loan spell is looking to be another fack up too.

Just to add, I don't know how much say Spurs would have had in this, but you'd think they wouldn't have been too keen on helping us out for obvious reasons.

If Shaw said he was OK and the medical team didn't spot anything then it could just be bad luck.

Antony at LB wouldn't be my first option of course but in games where we're on the front foot I think he'd be OK.

front left foot, presumably

I don't get the feeling we rush anyone back to early. Even when they have been full training for a week ETH invariably says they are ready to play yet.

It's not even the defensive capability - it more the complete lack of a right foot that would worry me. If you're an opposition coach looking at pressing traps, you'd target him all day.

Saying that, I guess Valencia didn't do too badly, but his speed and strength got him out of a lot trouble.

Its not unusual for players who have been out a while, or are susceptible to Injuries, to pick another up during thei return to action.

Think we did with Rashy a couple of years ago. But I agree that player, medical staff etc all probably gave the green light and this is just unlucky

They are fair concerns but I'd honestly prefer him to Lindelof there in games we're on the front (left) foot in. If Lindelof has to play full back I'd prefer him at RB but I don't think ETH wants to lose Dalot from there.

Time to call in the young guns.

Luke Shaw is just as one footed, to be fair.

Don’t we have a highly rated LB in the u18s who are doing really well at the moment? Probably way too soon to give him a chance tbf.

Athletic are reporting it now, Shaw’s season is absolutely done. Shambles.

As long as he can get down the wing and provide the amo.

Was Brandon Williams sold, or is he out on loan at Ipswich?

A left back needs to be a priority in the next transfer window. As good as he can be, Shaw can’t be relied upon. Left back should be more of a priority than right back.
