Timo Werner - Stick or Twist?

I think the fee is £12m, so if his wages are reasonable then I would buy him. At that price we can’t go wrong and Ange has a use for him, and he does score and assist, he’s just not prolific.

If Spurs are looking to upgrade then if he was aware and happy with being a squad player then yes, I do think there are better out there but at what? 15m was it he would be a decent investment but not as one of your current or proposed starters imo

At that price I think it’s fine, and hopefully we’ll have Europe next year, so a lot more games.

I suppose it all depends on what areas we are looking to improve in thesummer.

Currently up front:

Son LW/FWD
Johnson LW/RW
Deki LW/AM
Richarlison FWD/LW
Werner LW/FWD
Solomon LW

So we have 6 options across 3 positions.

Solomon is a bit of an unknown, fringe player having been injured.

While Werner has been pretty good and seems to be getting better, i don't think that he and Solomon are strong enough back up if we want 2 players in each position. One of them, fine, but not both.

So if we have the chance to get in a Eze or a Neto then may be Werner becomes surplus. If these sorts are not possible and we maybe go for another striker, a Toney or a Giminez, then may be Werner still offers something more than Solomon and if he's cheap enough then keep him.

No doubt Levy would be keen on the Werner deal, but there's no point doing it if its at the expense of getting in a top class attacker. We need to identify the heir to Son soon anyway, and Werner aint it.

Absolutely stick.

To me it's a no-brainer. His numbers have been good so far and I've absolutely no doubt we will take up the deal because he has the ability to play anywhere across the front line. That flexibility and low cost will be a huge factor. I'll be amazed if we don't trigger it.

Dev, I don't think it will impact any signing of Eze or Neto because I think we'll be losing players like Gil and Gio. As good as Eze and Neto (injury prone) are, they can't play the number nine position so that will come into our thinking. For what it's worth, I think we do sign Eze this summer - for a start he's a BASE represented player and if Palace sell him it'll allow Glasner to reinvest in players suited to his style. I don't think they'll have the funds otherwise. I think we would have gone for Neto but I don't think we will now because of his injury record.

We need players that are better than the ones we have. He’s not.
We need a proper left winger who takes on their man and is clinical enough to chip in with a good amount of goals.

We’re getting to the end of another season where we’ve won nothing. Does Timo Werner get us closer to winning something? No. So buy players who will👍🏻

Not good enough. This loser mentality of some fans! OP, YOU need to take a good hard look in the mirror as fans like you accepting mediocrity is stopping us win the league in Ange’s first season.

And let’s not forget who ultimately sanctions transfers and new players.

Depends how the rest of the season pans out for him. For now he's done quite well. If he keeps it up, performing at the same level then he's worth keeping but more as a squad player. If we want to actually improve as a team to be able to challenge for big trophies then is he a player who starts regularly? Hmmm.

Timo came here in a bit of a rut, not starting many games, low confidence and form. So there was of course some adjusting to do.

In his 7 games (5 starts) he has 2 gaols and 2 assists, or 4 goal contributions to use the modern parlance.

That is not bad at all, and especially when you think that the team havent really been clicking in much of that time either. His last 2 games have been 2 of his best, looking more confident and willing to run at the FB

SO to say he is not better than we have is perhaps not quite right.

Secondly, a squad is not just made up of 25 top draw players, especially a club like us where we cannot offer what say City can offer. Subs/squad players will not be as good as your best XI, but you want the drop off to be as little as possible. Gakpo/Jota aint no Salah. Alvarez aint no Halaand, Werner aint no Son....but are they good enough to do a job and make an impact when they come on.

I think Werner is slowly showing that he is capable. And as a squad player, do you want to be spuffing £50m? At £13m Werners output so far is top value.

As stated above, my view is that as long as his signing does not inhibit us getting our top targets, then it is a worthwhile buy (if he keeps his form going), especially if we have Europe next season when we may have 50 games, which will be fecking hard work playing the Ange way.

I think that's guaranteed Sizz. Whether it's CL or not we'll be in Europe, so yes he could be useful there.

Do we need a better first team option in the team though if we want to win a league title or CL? Potentially yes because at the moment I'm not sure Son, Werner, Richarlison, BJ, Kulu gives you that, whichever 3 you play.

Honestly this is our simplest decision of the summer alongside take whatever we can get for Spence.

The guy is a steal at £12m, he suits our system, doesn’t mind being a squad player and can score and assist.

We need to add further quality, there’s no doubt about that, but not at the expense of Werner. We’re nailed on for Europe next year bar a spectacular collapse. That’s now a minimum of 8 games and I suspect we will finish in positions 9-24 meaning we go into the play off round, the chances are we will play 10-12 European games next year. Hopefully we perform better in domestic competition as well. It’s not difficult to imagine 15 extra games for this squad next year - Werner will get game time

Take him as a good squad option but we still need another top quality wide man also, as well as 4 or 5 other improvements around the pitch

When we play Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool consecutively, it will give us a good idea of how worthy these guys are. Because while squad players might just be the back up and seen as not as good as 1st team players, they will still get their share of big games and should be expected to perform in them as well.

A German international, Champions league winning squad player with bags of experience and suited to our system.

United used to win titles with players like Smalling, Cleverley, Jones, Evans, Brown, Djemba Djemba. City won the lot with Kalvin Phillips - a guy who can’t get into West Ham’s first team.

Most of our recent signings have been first 11 players, the odd squad player here and there never hurts

Yup - sign him up

He’s fast and suits Angeball and a snip at £12M

All players that form the backbone of our XI who have been added in the last couple seasons

Johnson
Werner
Solomon
Dragusin
Richarlison (as back up behind Kane)

being the other players weve bought in the last 2 years who have been for the squad.
