I've just looked at Onana's highlights

I thought at the time he reacted a bit strangely for the second goal. Seemed to think it was going over? But I dunno, easy for us to judge from a slow motion replay I suppose.

The save he pushed onto the bar was incredible. Other than that not much I can remember.

It is nice to have a keeper who's a bit of shīthouse in a penalty shootout though - it makes a difference. One thing I always criticised De Gea for.

I can’t remember him having anything to do until he picked the ball out of the net for their first goal.

Then we just predictably gave up.

Couple of decent saves but nothing special.

He doesn't seem to have as many clangers now though

It showed some classy Dave's, called world class by the commentators, plus the penalty

Saves, not Dave's !

Tested the ref’s patience most of the game with how long he was taking over goal kicks

Wasn’t world class, as one of them was more or less straight at him, but showed great reactions still to get it, out, which was pleasing.

This.

A good save but it was down his throat.

His reaction to the deflected shot was weird - almost as though he just gave up on it. But he’s been pretty good since around Xmas, and has maintained that improved form since returning from AFCON as well. I think only one of the goals that Chelsea scored should have been saved by him.

He is a good GK. No more, no less.

On BBC Match of the Day he did just ok.

He didn’t do anything wrong, so a solid enough performance from him. No real complaints

For me he's a top GK, always has been. Unconventional, a little bonkers, a little Barthez about him. He's found consistency in his game in a very inconsistent Utd side, which quite frankly, affords him little to no protection. Without Onana we would have conceded far, far more, we'd probably be in the bottom half of the table.

Im sure if Onana wasnt playing Erik would have picked another goal keeper instead

To be honest it was a freak goal, a fluke. It dropped just under the bar and he probably thought it would hit the bar / go over. Or he just gave up, lamenting his misfortune. What irks me more is the way he falls to the ground / dives. This can be coached out.

He has attitude / balls that DDG lacked but lacks DDGs pure shot stopping abilities. DDG was a freak of nature tbh.

Why are you asking if you saw his highlights?

I like Onana, good character to have around... His mistakes seem to be getting less and less... Hopefully we get to see him with a settled back four in front of him soon.

He's doing well and he seems to have the mental strength we need in players. He's probably already saved more pens than de Gea did for us.

I like him. We need more players with his attitude in the team.

And I think tbf to EtH he saw that which is why he brought in Onana and Martinez. He probably thought Casemiro would come with the right mental toughness but it looks like he's just given up and on holiday now.

Yeah, definitely. In principle, you can see why such players were drafted in, but in practice, sadly, it's been a disaster for various reasons. The negative aspect is what many are highlighting as the reason to remove ETH.

For me, the mess has been created by many parties with too much freedom given, possibly, to a coach without the club steadying its ship first. The recruits under ETH may be tough mentally but the playing profile and ability to last a season do not match what ETH was demonstrating for Ajax. Maybe Utd, the stage we are currently at, is a stage too far for ETH. Maybe we need a manager for each stage of our progression curve, if that makes sense, before we finally settle for the one we need to take us to sustained success. It's a big call for the new DoF, when he finally gets here!
