Think people are overplaying the impact of Solanke, he’s not a great finisher either as seen vs Leicester do not sure he would have won us the game vs Newcastle.

VDV would have made a difference though for their winning goal.

So chill, let's give it until we have two games a week and get into some proper flow before we really judge progress.

Agree with and looking forward to this though, can help get momentum going and get over a loss quicker with a game coming up quicker after a disappointing result.

Think some are underplaying it.

The guy got 19 goals for Bournemouth, so knows where the net is and how to find it in a team which created 60 big chances compared to Spurs' 87.

SO he is not only capable of finishing but he is also a physical presence in the box, one that will give us more options when we face a low block. He got his head on, and should have done better with, 2 or 3 headers vs Leicester. We simply didnt have that option vs NUFC and it makes us a bit more one-dimensional and more easily held at arms length. Playing up to a striker, back to goal, bringing others into play is also something that we cannot do with Son, and isnt Richi's strength either.

He is also a 100% striker. He has that movement and those instincts that Deki playing 9 doesnt, and while Son does to a degree, he's not a pure striker.

Solanke last season was the most effective pressing forward in the PL.

He brings a lot more to the game than just being "not a great finisher".

I totally agree with the OP. Adding Solanke is a big change for us and how we are able to play. That will take a bit of time to settle as players develop relationships & understanding. Training together, getting games, it will take a bit of time to click, but i think it will make a significant change to our attacking threat.

If you consider Kane a great finisher, who scored 30 goals in his last season, then in this Spurs team, the lesser Solanke should be able to hit 20. Needs his first goal, so it doesnt become a thing, but i expect him to prosper in time

Even Dragusin being where Romero was would have made a difference because at least he chased back, and kept pace. I am not sure if Romero could have kept pace but it would have at least forced the guy to shoot as Drag would have stayed with Isak taking away the easy side pass. VDV would have swallowed him up though He's withdrawn from international duty which i suppose is a good thing.

did find it weird that Dragusin wasnt in the LCB position

im sure Solanke will be good for us, he had a good overall game vs Leicester his presence does make a difference, but if the ball isnt going in the back of the net for him then he will be judge, look forward to having him back

infuriating we could field our strongest side vs Newcastle, who didnt even need to be good to get 3 points and only just realised they played league cup mid week

I'm encouraged by our football this season. We're playing even higher up the pitch and the pressure we're exerting on opponents is higher than it was last season.

The ball is being moved quicker but what needs improving is decision making and ruthlessness. We wasted countless good positions against Leicester and Newcastle by playing the wrong pass or holding onto the ball for too long.

Unfortunately, due to how we play, we need to count on being ruthless because in the final third because we're always going to concede chances like the Isak one.

Overall, a few tweaks and I think we can have a really good season.

Whilst I do agree with what I have seen in the first 3 games I struggle to see a way in which we concede fewer easy chances to the opposition, which could prove costly

The simple facts are that our 2024 away form will land us in mid table unless it’s addressed immediately. We need to be more pragmatic away from home to be honest.

I agree but also i think we are also doing this already to a degree.

That Isak goal, the defenders were in a back 4 shape . Midfielders man to man in the middle of the park with Madders pressing their deep lying CM. Romero switched off and body shape all wrong.

But overall if we were 10 yards deeper then that attack doesnt really happen. The through ball is harder, the space is less and the GK is more in play to sweep up.

Speaking of which, i think Vics starting position needs to be better. He doesnt sweep up enough IMO, esp. given how high the back line is.

from digesting post game content the consensus is that we played well and the goals will come, but i do worry what will happen when we dont play well

This ! Nobody is saying we are not playing good football but enough of all this "pie in the sky" optimism..... There's no basis for it. Our away form in the past year has been woeful. Its blindingly obvious that the good teams (of which we aspire to be) find it very easy to play against us. Nobody is suggesting we go back to the approach of Jose or Conte but Ange is stubborn to a fault and all this Bollix about buying into his philosophy is nonsense. It's about being smart and realizing that games are won and lost at both ends of the pitch. Dom Solanke MIGHT prove to be a good player but if we have to score 3 goals to win a game away from home then we are setting ourselves up for a big fall.

Instead of focusing on Ange's achievements in irrelevant leagues in Oz, Japan and Scotland, how about looking at the teams we hope to join at the top end of the PL. The Likes of Arsenal, City, Liverpool play great attacking football, score far more goals and create more chances than Spurs. More importantly they win more games.. WHY.... because they have balance, know how to defend and focus on winning rather than trying to entertain in some kind of freak show circus performance.

We all like Ange and want him to succeed. All we are asking is more him to open his eyes and play his football in context to the league in which he operates and the far better teams he's now facing.

This could be a good season but it could also be a mess. Just because it better to watch than the past few years shouldn't be an excuse to give him a pass for not achieving what it could be.

Good teams know when to take a draw and move on. There are no points for winning the possession battle or chances created.

Come on Ange, show us you have a plan B.. I want you to be better than this.

would anyone have been disappointed with a 1-0 win at Leicester, beating Everton and getting a 1-1 draw at Newcastle going into the NLD ?... Not me

Arsenal game is huge. Lose and it's 4 points from 4 games after a dreadful end to last season.

Think Ange should get the season unless the wheels totally fall off. But we need to start getting results as results have been poor since 10 games into last season.
