Its all cut up quotes, not seen or read the original source and whether or not there is parts of it missing.

If she is talking about the game should be as popular as the mens game and thats the reason then she has a point.

If its that for what they do just now and the popularity of the womens game then she is talkig the usual pi$h
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why should the women’s game be as popular as the men’s game?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cos is there is enough women on earth to make it as popular.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could say something like that about literally anything. If the product isn’t good enough, it won’t attract the popularity.

Whether the comments are ridiculous depend on context, I suppose. Is she arguing that Juventus should be paying her the same amount as it pays her boyfriend? I don't know, but I suspect not. Maybe she's pointing out that a 100-fold difference is pretty extreme, given the examples of many other sports (where market forces also operate) where the best female athletes can get rich, just like the best male athletes.

One can point to the lack of interest in women's football on the part of the viewing public, lack of money generated by the women's game, etc. For that reason, of course it's not viable and quite absurd to demand equal pay. But I think the story is incomplete unless we remind ourselves that women's football was *organically* popular in the pre-war period, drawing large crowds, before the men running the game decided that women shouldn't be playing football. Our sport's administrators at domestic and international level have been at best indifferent, sometimes outright hostile, to enabling girls to play football at youth level, facilitating professional female leagues, let alone actively promoting the women's sport. This culture prevailed for decades, right down to attitudes in the male-dominated stands, guffawing commentators, and TV directors picking out close-ups of random hot women in the stadium (which I confess I never minded). It seems that the recent renaissance in women's football has demonstrated that there is an appetite to watch the sport. Barcelona have attracted huge crowds. A lot of girls in this country are avid supporters. Seems as though quite a lot of them attend matches with dads. Maybe women's football will gather a distinct support base.

In short, I don't think salary parity is realistic, and there's no short cut to building up the sport to become a commercial behemoth like men's football. But after decades of marginalising women in football and happily winning cheap laughs at its expense, I feel like we dudes could do with being a bit more humble in these discussions.

But women in general just aren't interested in sports the same as men are, same goes with videogames and movies franchises like Star Wars, comic books etc, yet they keep trying to pander to them and wonder why they keep losing money...because that audience just isn't there.

of course you could and I did, the point im making is that the reason its not as popular is cos women aint interested, its their fault.

But the original point was missed, the quotes are all broken up, good chance there is a lot of perspective in those parts missing.

Well I wouldn’t blame women for it. I’d also be pretty certain that far more women support men’s football than women’s football.

My own wife watches Rugby and Hurling but she wouldn’t watch a women’s match in a month of Sundays.

Not sure if this is the same quote, slightly different wording, but in the one below firstly it's in response to a question, and secondly she's explicitly acknowledging that it's not a realistic expectation in the present, but something that would 'take a long time' to reach.

Alisha Lehmann was asked if she would like to have equal pay, and she said, "Everyone would like to, I often talk to Douglas after training and always tell him that the current situation is not right. We do the same job, but he earns a hundred thousand times more than I do; as a woman, it's a topic that concerns me. I believe it will take a long time to reach the goal, but this is clearly the way to go. Probably the women's World Cup was the fifth most viewed sporting event in the world. More than Super Bowl, crazy!"

...is it possible this is something that was taken out of context and shared around the internet to get a lot of blokes jumping on their hobby horses?

Maybe because WSL clubs now make far more than 1% of the revenue of their PL counterparts, coupled with the fact that the women’s game is growing ten times as fast in the UK as the men’s game? (50% growth in 2022/23 alone.)

There’s a significant adjustment coming. One of two things will happen: the top English players will all leave to play in the US, Spain and France; or the PL parent clubs of the top WSL sides will start ponying up recognising the explosive growth and potential in the game. My money is on the second of those two.

But the key part is that she thinks that her not being paid the say "isnt fair". Her words.

This demonstrates a lack of understanding that football wages come down to economics .

I may be misjudging this lass who on her insta page poses in bikinis and does footy tricks wearing not a lot, but on the balance of probability i dont not think her fairness comment is pointing to the oppression of the women's game in the 50s as the reason she cannot earn what her BF does.

And while that may be a valid point, there exists a fundamental difference between the men and women that mean men are far more inclined to participate in competitive sport in a beyond logical tribal way. How many websites are there like this with men obsessing about football in their masses.

The average WSL club makes 4m a year in revenue, last year. Thats 12 clubs making a total £50m.
https://www.deloitte.com/uk/en/services/financial-advisory/research/annual-review-of-football-finance-womens-super-league.html

PL clubs made a total of over £6bn, an average of about £320m.

(both 22/23 figures).

So thats about 1.5% so hardly "far more than 1%".

And to cite that the women's game is growing faster than the men's is is like saying my 12 year old son is growing infinitely faster than me.

While the female game may have increased 50% in the WSL that equates to revenues of about £15m. The PL revenues went from about 5.5bn to 6bn to 22/23.

Your comparison is totally false and misleading.
