Their coverage of Tyson/Paul was a disaster, hope they never get their hands on a PL/CL match.
Also, they would never get exclusive coverage anyway and you’d just end up having to pay a monthly subscription to see maybe 3-4 matches a season

Do you not think they could learn from their mistakes?
PL doesn’t make sense for Netflix. It doesn’t marry up at all with their global content strategy.
The reason people have been surprised when Amazon et al failed to rock up to the last 2 Premier League auctions in force is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how Amazon, Netflix etc approach distribution rights. The Premier League doesn’t make commercial sense for these companies.

What the most lucrative & most watched league in the world makes no sense....?
you'll explain why I expect
The more likely scenario is they will get some games and further add to the subscriptions you need to actually follow your club on tv over a full season.
Would be nice wouldn’t it, although I find it hard to see anyone outbidding Sky for the rights any time soon though, they know their whole subscription model is based upon it and would collapse without it.
Let’s be honest who in their right mind would pay for Sky tv if they didn’t have the football anymore.
The first Sunderland doc was good. Expecting them to bounce back up, Sunderland ending up going down made for great TV.

Yeah...i've only recently gone back to movies as they added Paramount + & it was only £5 more than my previous package
I watch a lot on Atlantic, Witness & a couple of other brand channels - but if the footy moved i'd have a rethink
Luckily I have Netflix & TNT (old BT) as part of my package, free access to Prime so get pretty much all the footy available (I don't watch all of it)
So you are saying you want NO matches to be shown live on TV ever again?

The markers are there for anyone paying attention.
2022-2024, Amazon buy a PL package to test it.
2025 - 2029, Amazon don’t even submit a bid.
The difference between Amazon, Netflix vs a Sky, is that Amazon and Netflix prioritise the US markets and global right deals rather than single territories, and they’ve shown to be very pragmatic in how they go about purchasing rights.
Amazon has pivoted towards Champions League for the next few years, and a strategy of buying one game per week to align to its US, German and Italian strategy.
What Amazon seems to have realised is that they only need one game a week to draw in those sports audiences and get them sampling other Amazon Prime content, so they’re not going to go and spend £1.25bn a season on PL like Sky is prepared to do.
People seem to think that because Netflix and Amazon can afford to buy these right, that they’ll disregard sound business acumen for the sake of it.
If Netflix want PL, they’ll want it globally. Therefore, if/when they do get involved it’s very unlikely they’ll take the lions share of games, because Sky will always place a much higher value on the U.K. distribution rights than Netflix, and with its European footprint, European distribution strategy and the backing of Comcast, Sky can still defend its position aggressively against Netflix outside of U.K. in the territories (US and Europe) that offer the highest value PL audiences outside the U.K.
Incidentally, the ability of broadcasters to monetised sports rights far more effectively than the leagues themselves is why I doubt we will ever see an NFL Game Pass situation emerge in the U.K. with the Premier League.
Game Pass deals sound like a no brainer to us as fans, but they only attract super fans, whereas broadcasters can capture broader interest fans from within their ecosystems, as well as the capitalise on the halo effect of football fans migrating to other sports content, and non-sports genres, and then monetise those impacts.
This is why NFL Game Pass isn’t a thing in the US, because the broadcasters will pay the league more than the fans will.
It’s why if there was ever a Premier League Game Pass it would exist in the US, Africa, Asia, Australasia, but not in the U.K.
It’s a dream.

What is there to learn? It’s a streaming service and buffering is always going to be a risk. Especially the biggest games with the largest audiences.
If you enjoy ‘live’ (let’s not forget that everything streamed is on a delay) sport being interrupted by the wheel of death then yea, start praying for Netflix

To be fair, Amazon has had a lot of problems. Anecdotally, you might not have been affected, but some of their big CL games this season have been wrought with buffering issues and stream freezes, not to mention those seemingly without issues finding themselves 4 minutes behind Live.
I have quite enjoyed the Amazon footage myself, but there will always be issues with streaming. I can’t believe Sky is migrating away from Satellite dishes to go fully IP based, tbh. I’m sure it’s commercially sound from and EBIT perspective, but streaming will never beat satellite.
I actually enjoy Prime myself because I watch all my football on my parent’s Sky Go account. Sky Go delay is another level. And you don’t have the option to mute commentators on Sky/BT that you have with Prime.
But it’s still besides the point. Why people would want to pay extra money for matches they could previously watch live makes no sense to me.
Their coverage of Tyson/Paul was a disaster,
Yes but anyone who paid to watch that rubbish should be slapped like the red headed stepchild
The commentary option is an interesting one. I know some people like it, but I actually cannot watch without it 😂
We basically have a Netflix service here in Oz for the PL. It’s $9.99 per month for all PL games live with no exceptions. You can choose what game to watch live and after the game there’s various lengths of replays. All FA cup games, women’s super league games and all European qualifiers/nations league internationals.
It baffles me that in 2024 the country that gives the world the best league can’t legally watch it all. So weird.

Oh yeah… well, for no extra cost, we get Neighbours on Amazon Prime! Boom!
We should be hopeful that the FA permitting SkySports+ to show all the EFL games from next season might soften the stance on showing the 3PM PL Kick Offs ahead of the next rights deal in 2029/30 season (it won’t change before then).
The rationale against it is an utter nonsense. The PL really should push the FA on it.
