I guess you can negate the risk but if you wanna play as a top team, pragmatic or not you're always gonna run that risk. VDV is obviously great but he might just be one of those players that can't do what he needs to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely this, he is a great player but he can’t play the high line consistently as his hamstrings won’t let him. Vicario is a great shot stopper but he can’t command his area aerially.
BJ is great at running on to the ball and finishing things off, but he can’t do faaack all with the ball at his feet with a man in front of him. Porto is a dream of a full back going forwards but can’t actually defend.
It’s all square pegs and round holes
I wrote a similar article on this. Few points though - when you have players out, aren’t you supposed to adapt? Having gray/davies and dragu in CB and playing the same is mind boggling.
Ange barely rotated when everyone was fit - look how he’s treated Spence. Reguillon incognito. Furthermore look at how he rushed back vdv and romero! He’s lucky the back ups are even playing their heart out for him considering how they’ve been cast aside.
You can go back to last season with the losses. I think you'll find our pitiful end to that season was with a largely fit and available squad. No juggling of the squad then to accommodate Europe or cup games. Yet still the regular losses to any team in form. 4 losses back to back and 13 goals conceded and we had both Romero and VDV in our back 4 for each.
Injuries or not, the regular losses are a constant.

Yep, a lot of parallels with Pep. It’s fine if you have the best players in each position - but if you haven’t then you absolutely need to adapt.
All we do is just keep trying to create overloads in a congested area - teams can mitigate this and hurt the faaack out of us the other end.
Who was supposed to be marking Salah on Sunday?

Good point that's been overlooked in all this. He helped cause Romero and VDV to be injured again by rushing them back. We all knew it was a risk and it was a risk that didn't pay off because we lost the game AND they got injured.
Of course we have to take risk, I prefer this way to Conte, Jose ways any day of the week.
I disagree about porro being a dream going forward though, he flatters to deceive a lot of the time I think. He's ok just not worth the defensive lapses. Djed has shown he has a final ball, has a great engine, recovery pace, good in the air, reads it well, is strong. Seems logical he comes in especially in this system but Nage loves Porro.
Johnson, I'm not sure why we signed him or how w reached the decision he was the man. I didnt see it in him at forest and defo not now. He doesn't press too well, unless an opponent slips. As you said, rubbish with ball at his feet. Very weak and doesn't track back with any kind of authority..
The dispossession stats are very misleading... You often see article crop up saying x lost the ball x nom of times must be dropped. I was a scout for Salford city for 3 years and this stat could be debunked quiet easily. Kulu is one of the hardest players to shake off the ball, he gets surrounded at times.
Just found some stats, so here are the most dispossessed players. How many of these would you like at spurs .

Very well said...
The end of last season was almost forgotten. No cup commitments as you say and I think we all expected when we had a fully fit team we'd be back in business.
It terms out the first 10 games was the blip not the norm. I seem to remember many of those games being a lottery also.
Been a good debate. We've bought evidence to back up our argument... I've really lost faith in the man. The doubts started with Chelsea last season and nothing has happened since to calm the worries that he's not the man.
Ange is arrogant and naive..... He's miles out of his depth..... Spurs have some good plyers. A manager would a bit of tactical nouse would get far more out of them than Ange is. The guy is a fraud
Potter is a cheap option, the guy at Bournemouth is very impressive... would happily have either
I watched the post Liverpool press interview.
I will agree with these things that have been said on here.......
1. Ange is out of his depth
2. He is not going to change his game plan, the only one he has.
3. He thinks he has had bad luck with injuries.
4. He thinks his ideas will result in a winning team eventually.
Now I will add some notes of my own.......
1. I think he is beginning to doubt his ability to succeed here at Tottenham, ...just a little.
2. But he does not yet admit that that is his fault.
3. Yes he has had bad luck with injuries, and he's putting a lot of his doubts on that as the cause.
4. Could he succeed here to build a winning team, yes I think he has about a 25% chance of doing so.
5. Are the players still with him? Some are certainly, but all of them, I wonder?
What is Levy going to do? Early New year will tell us that, maybe nothing, maybe something!
Merry XMAS one and all!

Dragusin was bough for $40 mln to cover for Injuries and while Archie Gray is still young plenty of cash was spent on him too. We were Told by the club that both Gray and Bergvall were NOT bought for the future and were 1st team ready. Perhaps if we kept our back 4 together (Stopped the FBs tucking inside into midfield and had our CM sit a bit deeper and weren't so easy to play through then these injuries would have less of an impact...... Drag and Gray were Massively let down by their managers ridiculous tactics yesterday...... But hey, Ange thinks it was OK coz Liverpool are Good and we scored 3 (2 when the game was dead).... Giving Ange more time is a waste of everyone's time and money... He's out of his depth and he knows it.... Our results would improve under Ryan Mason.... He would at least try and make us hard to play against....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give it a rest Diamond. You are embarrassing yourself. Anyone with half a brain knows that injuries and lack of squad rotation because of them are seriously hampering the manager.
You seriously saying Mason would improve the results. He simply wouldn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy, with all respect, the article literally highlights losses from this season with mostly full strength 11 starting. It clearly highlights that the way we play is mostly to blame.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes that was last season when the team Ange was putting together was fairly new, they needed time to bed in. Teams are not just put together overnight. They take three or four seasons to really develop. Ange has added Solanke plus one or two others this season, plus the emerging youngsters. But he has very rarely, if at all, had his best players available for any length of time to show any consistency.

True... But they couldn't do any worse at keeping the ball out of our net and making us too easy to play through. This isn't a personnel issue.. Its a tactics problem. Spurs were giving away soft goals and throwing away leads with all of the above in the team... We have been crap for over a year !

Tactically would not make any difference. The current Spurs defence could not go over the halfway line and would still lose by three or four goals to Liverpool. They just had a better 1st XI on the pitch than Spurs. And that`s a fact.
Other teams that also lost by three or more goals at home at the weekend. But you don`t hear their fans constantly grissling.
Palace v Arsenal 1-5
Ipswich v Newcastle 0-4
Leicester v Wolves 0-3
Man United v Bournemouth 0-3
Southampton were gubbed at home by Spurs 5-0, but they came our in the next match and drew at Fulham,, despite only having 10 men.
That`s the nature of football now. No such thing as just sitting back, and all will be well.

Yep - If Ange somehow turned it around and we won the League cup, FA cup and Europa this season whilst finishing 11th - there would be an article in June from him about how Ange has to go for failing in the league.
I disagree with quite a few posters, but they at least remain consistent - Shandy can’t do that, ever, he just says whatever gets him the most attention
I haven't had a chance to read through all the comments so maybe this has been said already. We were very unlucky in some of those early games. We played the opposition off the park, but failed to take our chances. This refers to the following games from the OP's list
Leicester
Newcastle
Arsenal (this was a smash and grab via set piece)
The remaining games I can't argue with, but it is worth pointing out that the Ipswich and Palace defeats followed Europa league games the previous Thursday. This should not be an excuse, but it's clear to me that the squad can't cope with a European and PL campaign. Something is not right with our preparation before/after European games. I know that a number of first team players will not have started those games, but they still travelled. Ange defo needs to sort this out because it's having an adverse effect on our PL season along with injuries and suspensions.
There some really basic system errors in there, end of. I thought his tactics yesterday were embarrassing tbh, as a manager he did nothing that I could see to change the games direction.
Spurs are quite awful in transition. Yesterday when they lost possession it looked like he was attempting a box midfield but the discipline of it was shocking, it just melted and provided zero protection as a result.
Tucking in the fullbacks is suicide as a result too, and it was pretty easy to create over loads.
On top of that, the height of the line meant literally one ball took out about 8 players.
The third goal is a great example of all of those things coming together and simply conceding.
I can’t see Ange’s point about philosophy, and with the ball Spurs can hurt anyone, but without it, Spurs are terrible tbh, they don’t look like they know their jobs.

Sandy doesn't do context.
Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester are all newly promoted teams adjusting to life back in the PL, some more than others. I think there is more expectation among fans of newly promoted teams that they may not be as good. Leicester also lost the manager who promoted them and have probably gone through more managers than we have the last 10 years, with more trophy success while doing it.
As I've said before, the game was dead at 5-1. Liverpool take it easy and we score two more goals. They score again when they feel they're being pegged back. And let's be honest, they could have scored a lot more. Ange is fortunate it wasn't up there as an 8-3, just like he was fortunate the Bournemouth score wasn't more decisive for them.

Well just watching the liverpool game you would think that, but then like Ange has said we were missing our keeper and 3 of our back four.
Liverpool had an extra days rest than spurs and changed 7 players in their midweek match as opposed to spurs keep playing the same players for the last few weeks due to injuries and lack of squad depth.
That was the first match this season where we have lost by more than 1 goal so although the media and plenty of other spurs fans say that Ange is out of his depth has no plan B etc etc it is strange that we haven't been battered more times this season.
Not forgetting that in his first season we finished 5th despite losing Kane and I think many predicted we would finish mid table. Merson said we would fight relegation after losing Kane.
This season, ok, mid table at the moment is not good but there are loads of games to play and we are not a million miles from the European spots and we are still in all cup competitions.
Everyone is obviously entitled to an opinion but I do find it a real shame that so many of my fellow Spurs fans want him out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can accept that Spurs were missing their cbs and keeper, but the point was about how he sets up the midfield when out of possession having been caught in transition.
It’s just not set up well, at all, which means we could isolate and overload your reserve players in defence and knock in six goals.
Szoboslai was given the freedom of the pitch, no-one tracked his runs. Son and Kulu are seemingly given no instructions to track back whatsoever. I actually thought Spence had a decent game, despite Salah scoring two, because he was given zero help.
I've been arguing this point for god knows how long - the key lies in the shots against stat, rather than goals conceded. All the time we're gifting the opposition chance after chance, whether they're often mopped up by Micky's pace, Vic's flying saves or last ditch challenges from Romero, the problem lies in the chances given rather than how good each defender is at clearing them. That's why the flaw isn't in personnel, it's in Ange's tactics. We're far too open so even if we have our best defence out there, they're still going to concede. It's just less than it would be for an inexperienced back line. The Galatasaray game was the most alarming thing I'd seen during Ange's tenure. I don't think I've ever seen us gift so many chances to the opposition. It was a joke, it really was. And that's not down to personnel alone.
At this stage, no one can convince me that these tactics will ever see us progress. Inconsistency is woven into this style. If our policy is to outscore the opposition in such a gung-ho way rather than control with in-game management with a certain level of tactical nous, then inconsistency is, naturally, a product of that.
Ange is seriously neglectful of the defensive side of the game and no one, not one club, has ever been successful trying it. I'm not sure why so many Ange disciples believe he'll be the exception. Do we not believe others have tried? Do they think Ange has some sort of secret code that makes him do it where other have failed? The only way this is even remotely possible is if you have the best players within your particular league. Pragmatism I'm afraid is an essential ingredient if you're going to manage Spurs. We don't want as much we had under Conte but to ignore it completely feels to me like suicide.

That’s the way we play, it’s risk and reward. If we concentrate on defending as a team we ain’t scoring 3 goals.
Like Ange says the Liverpool game was a bridge too far, we lacked energy in the game and Liverpool exploited it.
As I said if his tactics are so flawed how comes no other team has beaten us by more than one goal?

Man United v Bournemouth 0-3
Southampton were gubbed at home by Spurs 5-0, but they came our in the next match and drew at Fulham,, despite only having 10 men.
That`s the nature of football now. No such thing as just sitting back, and all will be well.

Pure, and let’s not beat around the bush here, shiete from Shandy as usual.
We should stay humble because Palace and Ipswich fans aren’t moaning. Claims Leicester fans aren’t moaning - bollox, see 98’s article. Meanwhile Amorim has now got himself the nickname Ruben Interim.
I hope for his own sake he is just trolling

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well just watching the liverpool game you would think that, but then like Ange has said we were missing our keeper and 3 of our back four.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another couple of kneejerk flavour of the month managers. Just changing managers after 18 months won't suddenly bring back Vicario, Romero, Micky, Udogie, Richarlison, Odebert etc from injury.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True... But they couldn't do any worse at keeping the ball out of our net and making us too easy to play through. This isn't a personnel issue.. Its a tactics problem. Spurs were giving away soft goals and throwing away leads with all of the above in the team... We have been crap for over a year !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tactically would not make any difference.

So when the players were fit earlier in the season you wanted Ange sacked, now the injuries have hit and you want to keep him. It’s blatantly obvious that you just go against the popular opinion and have this pathetic need to be argumentative and a massive hypocrite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep - If Ange somehow turned it around and we won the League cup, FA cup and Europa this season whilst finishing 11th - there would be an article in June from him about how Ange has to go for failing in the league.
I disagree with quite a few posters, but they at least remain consistent - Shandy can’t do that, ever, he just says whatever gets him the most attention
