Instagram 2bn active monthly users.

Twitter has about 330m active monthly users.
Musk really isn't as important as is made out. He just likes to stay relevant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is arguably the most powerful man in the world. His satellites have immense coverage of the planet and he has the money to buy almost any politician. He’s bought a place in the US government and will have his fingers in their defence budget and no doubt will find a way to get his satellites involved with the worlds largest military power.
He’s an assclown and I hope very bad things happen to him but he’s so much more than just twitter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I chose my word carefully in saying 'important' and I'm seeing it from Joe Public's POV. I appreciate he's very powerful but in terms of the attention he gets I think his relevance (and indirectly perhaps his power) would diminish if ppl stopped giving him the attention he craves.
Btw it's interesting Zuckerberg has bent over for Trump. Let's see where that goes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Snoop Dogg also bent over for Trump, damn I am gutted. 8 years ago he was dissing people who would perform for Trump.

The one saving grace about Musk IMO is his absolute lack of charisma. (Trump doesn't have that much either really). If Musk was charismatic I think he'd be much more dangerous.

It's one thing I don't get about Trump. He has so many m in thrall to him (I don't think it's an exaggeration to call it a cult), yet he possesses none of the personal attributes such figures would tend to have. He can't speak properly, his voice is irritating and hard to listen to for more than a few seconds and he even looks faintly ridiculous, especially when he does that stupid dance.
Being an idiot and struggling to speak in coherent sentences works to his favour. The vast majority of Americans are just like him and won't have picked up a book since they left school.
Trump scores terribly in well educated high earning regions of their country. He knows he's got the majority of the nation because most of them are total morons.

It's very calculated, he knows exactly what he's doing. Get the reaction, then say woke ppl are overreacting, they hate us, call us naaazi's blah blah blah. And he gets more publicity and more of his ego being stroked.
It would be best not to give this sack of sheit any oxygen. Leave him with enough rope to hang himself when Trump no longer sees him as useful and falls out with him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that is exactly what it was. That salute isn't a casual 'thanks guys'.
Perhaps Musk meant it in exactly the way it’s been perceived but it’s part of normalising these kind of things so there’s less and less outrage as the Trump regime slips further and further into a far right utopia.
With each horrific thing like this happening fewer and fewer people are surprised and it gets to the point in 3:4 years this happens regularly and many people forget how abnormal it is
He knew EXACTLY what he was doing!

Closed down a LEGAL immigration centre
Alienated the trans gender community
Employed a Nazi

It's actually truly scary that this is just seen as a normal day now in Yankieland. What a cesspit of a country they have become.

What is far worse is that everyone will accept it.
Especially on the international scene. He'll probably have more difficulty domestically than he will geopolitically. Every leader in the western world will nod along.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It won't. To end the US as a global power will take much more than making them an insular right wing country. If anything they are about to be bolder, throwing countries they aren't interested in to the lions and dominating countries they are interested in.
I think the long game here is the superpowers are carving out their spheres, anyone in them will have to much closer toe the line to their masters.
The EU is failing, us leaving, many of the countries moving to the right, economic stagnation, poor leadership. If they can't correct that soon with Russia at one side and American pressure at the other side it could well fall apart and we lose the only real prospect of a European superpower which can stand up for itself. Europe needed to act as a block against the might of American and Chinese influence. It's been too fractured and the Russians have done a great job doing that.
That said Russia isn't really a superpower, it's trying to become one again and not doing all that great. Should be about to get easier as the Americans pull back because getting Europe to unite and step up won't be easy. If you could do that, Russia doesn't stand a chance.

It's not just about the education system. Also the quality of public discourse has dropped significantly over the years. Reagan era media deregulation and the death of the Fairness Doctrine; the rise of shock jock radio, which then seeped into the infotainment TV landscape; increasing dominance of figure like Murdoch in the news space; the rise of social media and algorithms that funnel people down conspiratorial rabbit holes and into radicalised bubbles. I'd guess the median American has had far better access to education than they did when they elected Franklin D Roosevelt. What has changed since then is that the public information space is far more fragmented, and extremists and self-interested oligarchs have much better access to the national conversation.
