Not a straight draw. Teams go into pots depending on their seeding which is based on their position in the league. The sections of the pots are already predetermined which means for example that first and second place can't play each other until the final and they get home leg second game, in last 16. Draws will continue in regards to who plays who and away thereafter.
We've been firefighting and psychologically it must be very difficult to go on to a pitch with a mind set of delivering tactics and playing our game, the mindset must just be one of survival.
To me it is no wonder that we are lacking any decent patterns of play, especially defending and playing out from the back, when the back line is a patched up mix and match of players. It is just a case of getting through games
We need the main men back not just because they are better players but so we can switch that mindset around, from survival in games to imposing ourselves. VDV, Bentancur, Romero will make a huge difference. Having options to freshen up in games or rest and rotate will feel like an absolute luxury.
It is a bit of a shame that this last 2-3 months has taken so much out of those who have stayed fit. Porro and Deki are played into the ground. They could really do with a fortnight off but we continue with 2 games a week for the foreseeable.
When the key men do return, I do not expect an amazing turn around of results. Long term injuries are still impacting us, limiting our options and this is where the recruitment team need to be help us/Ange out if they want a decent upturn as we approach the sharp end of the season.

Thanks for that. I think Spurs can finish top four in all probability, given they have a reasonably straight forward home fixture.

I would think about resting Deki and Porro for maybe United and City matches. Target the easier games for wins like Leicester and Ipswich. Wins in those games will see Spurs easily survive in the Prem. Then absolutely target getting players fit and ready for the Europa, which has to be the main target this season.
Dude, we are not a top 8 team.
Such a wum.
Leicester(h)
Elfborg(h) - Europa
Brentford(a)
Liverpool(a) - EFL SF
Villa(a) - FA Cup 4th Rd
NO midweek game
Man Utd(h)
NO midweek game
Ipswich(a)
City (h) (mid week)
FA Cup 5th Round - OR Weekend Off.
Bournemouth(h)
NO midweek game
Fulham(a) OR EFL Final
So, 2 games a week for the next couple before we then head into the United game and a couple weeks of just 1 game.
If Villa beat us we get a weekend off in March.
For me its just about form and confidence. Get the main men back and start to try and get back to winning ways, playing our stuff, working on things that need improving and just trying to find a consistency which we lacked in the first part of the season. The middle part of the season has been a write-off and all about survival and getting through games. I do not pay much regard to it and actually think it will be amazing to come out of the end of it still in the cups (albeit difficult games ahead). Would be nice to head into the Liverpool and Villa games with some key men back, to give ourselves a chance but they may have come just that little bit too early.....unless we get some players in!!

Table never lies
The way it works if we finish top 8 is we skip the first knock out round. The round of 16 were guaranteed to be at home in the second leg.
It also determines our opponent - if we finish 6th for instance, we will play the 6th worst ranked side left in the Europa as determined by the Europa league table in the league phase. If the top 5 all got knocked out in the last 16 round and we went through - then we would again be guaranteed to be at home second leg and would play the worst ranked side left.
That Elfsborg game is a big one to win - a top 4 finish would give us home advantage in the second leg up to the Semi’s, whilst theoretically playing the poorer sides.
We can finish as high as second, but it’s unlikely - 4th is definitely doable with a win though
Of the teams above us.
Lyon have an easy home game - Win
United away at FCSB (8th) who will need the win. Not an easy one for Utd - Draw
Athletic at home to Plezen (11th) - Win
Frankfurt at Roma (21st) who need a win. Possible draw.
Lazio we cannot end above.
So I am predicting 4th

Yeah I think we will get a narrow win over Elfsborg and finish 4th.
That should give us a relatively easier last 16 game. After that it will be only decent sides left and will be very difficult.

Spurs at full strength should not fear any team, only United, not because they are better, but because they know how to win things. Hopefully some other team can knock United out.

I think that's one hell of a punt. Roma are 21st for a reason. I think we're in danger of letting their big name cloud our judgement. Frankfurt are top class but I guess having already virtually qualified, they might rest a few. Max we can hope for is 4th but I think we might finish just outside, probably 5th. Unsure of the significance of that.

That's why even though I was backing Rangers last night (because it's nice watching United lose), it's important they also finish top eight to avoid them. Agree with you. Those juggernauts in Europe tend to just find a way, mainly with a history-assisted tailwind.
Hopefully beat Leicester, and it would have been a decent week after all the gloom. There is light at the end of the tunnel, just needed a bit of patience.
