has Salah been doing it for long than Henry now too?
i guess the extra title will cement it for me too. although growing up watching Henry in a better era probably has me still looking better at players from then
i guess penalties do come into the debate, even though they are goals after all, also how Henry terrorised defenders more notably. but you have to say them two are at the top now as ppl have mentioned

I think Henry had about 8 seasons in the PL. Salah is on his 8th now. Salah will have had more goals and more assists than Henry and assuming he wins the PL title, a similar number of domestic trophies, although Salah has won the CL.
Only reason people would decide to rate Henry above Salah therefore is down to the style of player that he was I guess.
I think after this season Salah should be eclipsing Henry is many people's eyes, mine included.
Just for the record Don, why do you say in the Prem era. It`s just a name change. Basically you are wiping out everything pre Prem era, including about 16 Liverpool titles.
I never quite get why when talking about football, it has to be divided between Prem and pre Prem.
I prefer to think the best players in the league were players like George Best, Jimmy Greaves, Denis Law, Kenny Dalgleish, Ian Rush etc.
Sure Mo Salah is decent, but still has only half the goals Greaves scored in the top flight. Let that sink in.
there shouldnt ever be a player of the season as theres been more than one season

Why would i mention those players and that era when i’m 38 years of age mate. I grew up watching football during the Prem era, so that’s all i know. Not going to start talking about Ian Rush etc when i never saw him play. Pretty simple mate. Oh and Salah isn’t “decent”, he’s outstanding

Well that is fair enough. But I didn't see some great players in the eras before I started watching football. Does not mean I would never talk about them.
Salah may be outstanding in the modern era, but he does not even make the top 40 of goalscorers in the top flight of English football. So like I said decent, but certainly not outstanding.
Against the grain again….. 🙄

While that may well be true, Salah's also playing in an era when the Premier League is stacked with top-level international footballers from all over the world. The relative quality of the opposition is much higher.

I would still rate Alan Shearer as the best Prem player, if you want to just talk Prem era. He is still the record Prem goalscorer, and by a fair bit.

Fair enough. It seems to me that there's too much focus on goal scorers, though.
Midfielders are often better all-round footballers than forwards.
If Haaland, for example, were to break Shearer's record, would people consider him a better footballer than David Silva? Adebayor better than Fabregas?
Better goalscorer, but the strikers in midfield and they'd be clueless lumps. Conversely, both Silva and Fabregas proved useful on occasion as false 9s. Even a far less accomplished central midfielder like Mikel Merino recently stood in as a 9 and bagged a brace.

I love Shearer and he was one of my favourites growing up but he is not the best PL player. If you want to argue for goal scorer then fair enough. As an all round player he's been overtaken by equally good goal scorers who were more creative as well - Henry, Salah. His longevity compared to those 2 is what has given him the amount of goals he has. They are on 8 seasons. He's had 14.
