and with a largely fit squad, we need to prove we can play mid week and weekend without any massive drop off, otherwise its just proof that this isn't sustainable long term

Yep, agree, same with Spurtle's comment above. the league isn't a write off because, like he says, it's Ange's audition.

My worry is that he'll win the games where he's got a free week which is kind of a false dawn because if you're going to manage a club of our stature, ordinarily you have to manage playing twice a week. It's just the nature of the beast. I do hate it when some fans see the positives in having no European action midweek. It's really weak mentality. For the kind of revenues we generate, we should have a squad capable of juggling those commitments.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I could see it as useful in Ange's first season.

Squad in rebuild, still short in some areas. Time needed on the training pitch to bake in the new ideas etc

But now with a decent sized, quality squad, players settled, Europe is an absolute must and something we should be able to cope with.....that said, this season our injuries were insane and the 2nd half of the group stage was just painful, energy sapping experience for players and fans alike.

Im not accepting excuses for poor league performances.

Last time we played Fulham (h) we had Davies & Drag in front of Forster, Werner on the wing, Son through the middle, Deki carrying a knock and on the bench and were also missing Bentancur. The likes of Bergvall and Gray had not yet come to the fore.

While we may still be missing a few, with a few returning to match sharpness, the likes of Spence, Vicario VDV Romero Bentancur, Odobert, Solanke in the team plus the kids looking better and better, there is no excuse for not getting a result and probably more important, putting in a strong performance.

If we are a bit jaded after last nights action then, a solid professional performance that takes a result from the game is the minimum.

These last couple months of the season are Ange's audition and Europa league progress alone is not good enough because ultimately we want proof that we can be consistent and gain results in the league...that's the bread and butter and it may well be all we have next season!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Quite right it should be part of his audition, not just the Europa. People are in danger of losing sight of what we do in the league on account of progressing in Europa. Lose to Fulham at the weekend and we could quite easily drop another 2 places to 15th.

Winning the Europa or not, it's simply unacceptable to be struggling to get to 40 points towards the end of the season for a club of our size.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You do know that even for a club of Spurs size, they have been relegated four times.

For 15 years from 1961 to 1975 Spurs won 1 league, 3 FA Cups, 2 European 2 league cups. And guess what despite all that they then were relegated shortly after. Man United won a European Cup, 2 league titles, the FA Cup and they were also relegated shortly after.

Just to show that nothing is certain in football. Ask Leicester fans.

Spurs have no more right to be be near the top of the table as they do to be 15th. In fact for lots of their history that has been their natural position in the top division.

So you’re legitimising being shiiit because previous Spurs teams have been relegated generations before? Are you really saying that? That’s mind-boggling my stupid. Even if you do have the perspective to understand that we’ve had things worse before, it shouldn’t soften the criticism Ange should be receiving. The bottom line is that we’re in the top six in terms of transfer spend but sit in 13th. Even if you were being kind, this is a double bogey.

The strange thing with you Sandy is that you’ve witnessed Spurs facing relegation before, yet you can’t bring yourself to use that memory to maybe give Poch credit for never having been anywhere near it. Why back a man that, for the first time in over 30 years, has us, or had us, in and around the relegation conversation? It’s a stain on his tenure. It really is.

No I am not legitimizing anything. Stop twisting everything to suit your own agenda. I am merely saying Spurs have no more right to a top four place or a trophy than any other club.

It is you that is saying Spurs are near relegation when they clearly are closer to the top four, than the bottom three.

You have an Agenda against the manager, so whatever he may or may not achieve he is never going to be good enough for you.

At the same time you go on about Pochettino as if he is some kind of Messiah. It's weird.

Fridge will worry if Spurs win, just because they have a free week off after. What an absolute load of nonsense.

You make up every excuse when Spurs win, and when they lose the manager is clueless according to you. You really are one strange poster.

And this makes it alright? We've been crap before in our history so it's totally acceptable that we are crap now?
