Definitely the man city one hurt....
And the pompey semi final....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The thing with the Pompey semi final is that shortly afterwards we turned Arsenal and Chelsea over at home and Man City away and qualified for the CL for the first time - it was probably the only time I was more interested in in getting in the CL than winning a comp. It was 3 huge wins that were as far from Spursy as it gets - and therefore I’ve never really been scarred by that semi final
I’m surprised nobody is mentioning the Chelsea winning the CL and robbing us of CL despite coming 4th, surely that’s supremely spursy?? Had to be them kuunts too

Was actually gonna mention that.
I believe they changed the rule that the 4th placed club wouldn’t get CL at the start of the season. Added to that, having Arsenal get 3rd on the final day as well after we’d squandered a ten point lead.
Unbelievably Spursy

Again though in Contes first season where we were fighting Arsenal for the last CL spot, they were 8 points ahead of us with 4 games to go and we caught them - no one mentions that.
I’ve just of Uniteds Spursy moment - when they were 8 points clear of city at the top with 6 games to go and got caught - surely that’s Spursy.
Don’t know why we get the tag given other teams are also littered with these moments. If it’s because we haven’t won a trophy for 16 years then what about Villa and Everton who are knocking on 30 and Newcastle went 70 years
Bobby B,
Not being funny but this Moura thing is becoming very weird. You mention it on virtually every comment, regardless of the article. Your anger about it is as if it happened yesterday, not 6 years ago.
As I've said before, we were playing an infinitely better side than us at the time, and Kane was starved of the ball and clear opportunities. If he'd started Moura and we'd lost, you'd have said "What an idiot, leaving our greatest ever player on the bench". Poch can't win. That hat trick in the semi wasn't the birth of a world class player. It was a freak anomaly. A once in a lifetime set of events. He wasn't about to do the same in the final. He'd have just been the usual Moura - head down running down blind alleys.
Kane being injured is NOT why we lost that game. Liverpool were just a better team than us. Just as City were and Ajax were. It's just that it's unlikely you'll get good fortune 3 times in a row.
Weird reason to bash Poch. At least he feckin got us there.

Why do Liverpool have the victim label?
Why do Chelsea have the plastic label?
Why does the Emirates have it's library repuation?
Why do City have the no fans tag?
Because things happens - some things stick, some don't - and the one's that do become infused into a club's outward culture in the name of "banter" despite all these things happening to all clubs all the time.
We could all decide to drop these perceptions, but who really wants that?
Yeah I think the “Spursy” tag is on the whole justified though, we have more of these incidents it seems, including things like dodgy lasagnes on the final day and we lose etc etc
We even have the most 2 goals leads turning to defeats more often than anyone in PL history, stuff happens to spurs that doesn’t to anyone else, at least that’s how it feels to spurs fans so it most also seem similar to other fans. Seems like we are cursed at times, we always get injuries ahead of finals
To answer your question though, it's a tricky one to answer as they're not all to do with trophies.
Seeing Spurs agree a fee with Lazio for Gascoigne in 1991 really upset me as a 12 year old.
The Irving Scholar fiasco was another worry where it looked like we were gonna be totally fecked until the court reduced the points deduction and Cup elimination to a fine.
Turning on Soccer Saturday to hear Jeff Stelling telling us that half the Spurs squad were out with food poisoning on the day of one of the most important PL fixtures in our history.
Aside from those most of my disappointments will be anchored to losing finals or at least moments within those finals. We've not had much luck in finals for a long time. It's why I'm resigned to our fate, should we make the Europa League Final. It's easier to expect defeat than hope for victory. I'll be in the US with work during the final so I'll only be able to check the scores on my phone. Fully expecting a United win so at least it'll only be short pain rather than the full agony of the 90 mins. Should we unexpectedly win it, I'll watch it back on my return in all its glory.

I look at it this way (as a non-Spurs fan)
Every fan thinks their club's special in a self depreciating way - how often do you hear phrases like "only my club could do this" or "we always make it hard for ourselves". Spurs are one of the only clubs that not only think this like everyone else, but where everyone else also thinks it about them.

Spurs only got their with luck. Getting to the final had SFA to do with anything Pochettino did. And it showed in the final, when the luck finally run out.
On the flip side there is always the 1999 league Cup win. Down to 10 men early second half and up steps Neilson in stoppage time.
We stopped Man Utd doing the quadruple that season by beating them in the QF.
For a few weeks we were able to joke at Sheringham's expense that he had gone to Man Utd (in 97) and won feck all. Only for him to then win the treble a few months later. So I guess that was a bit Spursy after all.

That driving run by Iversen when he must have been absolutely shattered lives long in the memory.
Our last 3 finals we have won have been done the hard way - 1991, Gazza goes off injured and Pearce scores the free kick, Lineker has a goal flagged off side despite being miles on, it wasn’t even debatable, then Lineker has the penalty saved - faaaacking grim at half time - only for Paul Stewart to produce a thumping finish. Then ET Paul Walsh hits the bar - fortunately Big Des Walker buries the header into the top corner.
Then 2008, early Chelsea goal and I expected a precession after that, only for Ledley King to dig out his finest Spurs performance, Berbatov show he had ice in his veins and Woodgate to score with his face.
