I'm not a Liverpool fan but didn't get Carragher's comparison of when Owen and McManaman left, those Liverpool teams were not challenging but Rush and Souness left to go to Italy when Liverpool were the dominant team, not only in England but also Europe, though the latter left after the ban, I think?

I don't see what the big issue is. Madrid are massive and it's arguably a better place to live than where he is. Certainly weather wise! That's not to mention of a new challenge.

This one feels like a very slow news day type situation. There's little drama in the League itself so TAA leaving gets blown out of all proportion.

He's been at Liverpool for ages, won it all and is now moving to the most prestigious club on the planet. Not sure he ever claimed he'd sign a new contract or led the clubs/fans on? If he did that's probably a bit different.

From the outside it just looks like a player who acted professionally and has decided on a new challenge.

It'll be interesting to see if Liverpool even miss him, his style is quite unconventional and suited Klopp but I wonder if Slot might find another type of RB preferable anyway.

Not really bothered seen loads of good players leave the club , looking forward to new arrivals tbf

Question is would a CL medal be more satisfying won in opposition to Madrid or actually playing for Madrid

I hate all this fawning over Madrid

Well he’ll not go down as a Liverpool legend will he? He’s leaving in his prime.

I could also understand McManaman and Owen leaving, they were two of the best in the world and wanted trophies, although it was hilarious in Owen’s case that Liverpool won the CL after he left.

Trent is leaving when Liverpool can compete just as much as Madrid can. It’s a different situation where I guess he wants the lifestyle or trophies in a different country perhaps.

Anyway good luck to him, he’s obviously giving up a lot and it would have been a difficult decision.

I have supported LFC for the best part of 45 years, I am a Welsh man, I am not from Liverpool, but I have an affinity with the city, not only do I love the city of Liverpool, I absolutely adore LFC.

I have been very privileged to have been to some glorious nights, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Istanbul final, I have been to parades, I will go to the parade at the end of the month, I was in the KOP for the last game where standing was allowed and fellow Welshman Jeremy Goss scored a screamer to beat us.

I watch our famous club as often as I can, and I do not miss a game, if I can get tickets I go, but they are hard to come by, especially now that they are on mobile phones, but if I cannot get to the game, I will go and watch it in a club, or on the tele in the house.
=====

This is what following LFC is like for me too. Apart from nit being Welsh and the 45 years (28 years for me).

It's a funny one isn't it. You could argue that he is a legend because he won the lot during his time here and was a key player in two league title wins, after going decades without one. But then I can see why some people have a bitter taste in their mouth with him leaving on a free in his prime.

Personally I'm not overly bothered as better players have left us in fairly recent times and we have survived, but it's still a bit of a shame.

Do any of you think he should play another game for us this season ?

I think the best thing Slot can do is leave him out, there will be sections of the fanbase who will not be very polite to him.

No - he should not. It’s of no benefit to the club, assuming Bradley is fit to play the remaining games. Perhaps he could come on for the last couple of minutes for the last game to take what will mostly be thanks and appreciation from the fans but of course there will be a section of the support who may show their frustration also.

Cant trust trent, he's probably been lazy as hes ever been due to not wanting an injury

Think the lads entitled to make his own decision and fair do's to him on that front. I dont understand it myself, but thats just me, I'm obviously different to Trent. I know in myself that if I was playing for the team I love more than any other and winning with my team then there would be nowhere else I'd want to be ever.

Would I have stayed at LFC all my days like Gerrard did whilst playing with some of the dross he did? Thats another story. I may very well have been swayed there.

He cant go down as a club legend when he walks away at 26 on a free. And if he expects to hes not living in the real world. Us fans love the club, the players come and go.

And these opposition fans and pundits that keep telling us we should be happy for him and wish him well etc can fack off. Never heard so much b0llocks in all my life. Would be like your misses telling you shes offski with another bloke and you being asked to give her a pat on the back and say "well done, good choice".

Theres not a single fan out there would be happy to see 1 of their star players walk on a free at 26.

And no he shouldnt start again. No issue with him coming off the bench in games but the future is Bradley. He needs the game time. The clubs future is far more important than some sense of "fair" ending for trent.

Any Liverpool fan is entitled to be disappointed but not a single Liverpool fan who isn't from the City or even from Merseyside can talk about lack of loyalty or him being a traitor.

Probably best for Carragher to pipe down too. I mean leaving Liverpool after 20 years to go to Madrid on a free is one thing. Changing your allegiance from Everton to Liverpool at the age of 16 is another thing entirely though.

This YNWA mantra needs to be put to bed too. The biggest lie ever told in football.

What are you banging on about here? You made three points and I can’t work out which one is more ridiculous.

If you aren’t born in Merseyside you can’t talk about a lack of loyalty? Of course you can, doesn’t mean it’s a good point but where you’re born doesn’t dictate your feelings on it.

Carragher becoming a Liverpool fan at 16? Oh the audacity. He spent half of that time at the Liverpool academy. The other half was from birth to being eight years old. It would be strange if he didn’t become a Liverpool fan you nutcase.

This YNWA claptrap you’ve come out with? If he’s not playing for Liverpool and leaves on a free in his prime, it’s hardly meant for him is it? Sure why don’t we sing in for Bruno Fernandes at the next game ffs, if it’s just for everybody and not those who are actually at the club.

Honestly I’ve never read multiple points in one comment and every single one of them have been absolute nonsense.

I guess leaving on a free is a bit rough but otherwise I can't imagine why any Liverpool fans wouldn't be grateful for what he's done and wish him the best. Maybe I've missed something though

Most will be but like every group with a massive amount of people there will be some with different opinions on every subject. It’s hardly a crazy thought that many fans will see him leaving on a free when we’re competing for and winning trophies, whilst he’s in his prime as something that annoys them. I’m not one personally but I can understand it.

I mean you guys weren’t exactly happy when Van Persie left or even Sanchez and they weren’t even in their prime.

Rat.

Didn’t want to give Slot a chance and was being a weasel lining up a move to Madrid since the start of the season at least.

Don’t want him in remainder of the squad, don’t want him in the parade. He can fack off to Madrid immediately.

Club put twenty years of development into him and made him a world beater.
Local lad, vice captain, and he plays his part to ensure Liverpool don’t even receive a transfer fee, never mind anywhere near his value.

Madrid take pride in making players sh!tt on their clubs.

Trent is never a Liverpool great, never a legend, he’s just a superb player who gave up legend status and shat on the club that made him.

Rat.

Also journo’s being paid to do fluff pieces for him.

I appreciate the role he's played in the club resurgence and winning the trophies we have in recent years. Superb player but as others have said, he forfeits the possibility of club legend by walking on a free.

I don't have a problem playing him in the remaining games. I suspect the bile is coming from internet fans and the match going fans will be appreciative. When McManaman left he was given a standing ovation in his final game. I suspect our fans would do the same again for Trent.
