Ugarte and Mainoo - where do we stand?

Ugarte is a poor footballer, so is Zirkzee, another fan fave it seems. Psg removed him for a reason. United just can’t attract good players so take cast offs nowadays. Let’s be honest even maz and de ligt are cast offs. At best squad players in a decent team.

Just because Urgate wasn’t the right fit for Enrique doesn’t mean he can’t work for a top side. He might not be the most technical midfielder but he’s has a lot of qualities that when played with certain CMs can compliment each other very well.

I wouldn’t class him as indispensable but there are plenty of other areas that we need to fix before thinking about replacing Ugarte.

Robben, Sneijder, Salah, KDB, Forlan and Crespo are all players off the top of my head who were considered not good enough and then went onto other sides and performed brilliantly. Just because you don’t fit in one side doesn’t mean you can’t under others.

He doesn’t fit here either.

He doesn’t fit a system and manager even thought he was a success under the same system and manager at Sporting?

There a lots of things that need fixing at the club but it’s clear Ugarte is a player that can operate in an Amorim system, whether he’s good enough for us it’s too early to say.

These comments about manager X can't wait to get rid of footballer Y are ridiculous.
Does it apply to Bruno, Mazraoui, and many others down the years. Some, most, workout, some don't.
Lots of the triple 99 team were bought.

Ugarte is indispensable. The only defensive midfielder with the legs, tenacity and surprising footballing ability to play in any midfield. Something we have needed for years. If we signed him instead of Ronaldo, Ole may be a god by now.

Mainoo is the quintessential 3 man midfielder. Sadly we rarely play that (not under ETH nor Amorim). He was not the paciest but he is a smart footballer. We can work if he has the right players around him but is he good enough to be building a team around? No. He probably should be out on loan, but we barely have good players.

Of course you rate Ugarte and think he's got surprising football ability. 😂

Been telling you this for a long time mate.....maybe try Rugby or Cricket. Football isn't for you. He runs around a lot and that's it. A very poor footballer.

Luis Enrique showed you how much football ability he
has. Couldn't wait to get rid as he wasn't up to his keep ball football.

Honestly.....this fanbase make me laugh at cry in equal measure. Ugarte is so incredibly mediocre.

Indispensable too 😂

Lmao. YOU are the fanbase that makes me laugh. We still do not have a defensive midfielder as close to Ugarte. That by definition makes him indispensable. It's either him or Casemiro golden patch. Think logically for once. Think past the last thing you saw. Look critically. You worry me 85.

We're still after all these years at the stage where our midfield isn't anywhere near good enough although it's the same old story of the structure around them not being ideal either because teams are still finding space incredibly easy in the centre of the pitch.

I'm not sold on Ugarte at all. He's very inconsistent in possession of the ball. Yes sometimes he is quite safe and tidy (what he was known for), he can execute the odd killer pass but his passing has generally been quite careless and he's not a very good receiver so he's prone to losing the ball in dangerous areas under pressure and as we seen yesterday, his awareness of what's around him is woeful at times.

Mainoo has suffered a worrying drop-off from when he first came into the team. There are moments where his talent shines through but overall he seems to be quite a way off the pace with and without the ball. Maybe he's bulked up a little too much and/or the injuries have taken a toll on him too.

He's not long turned 20 however, so I'm not greatly concerned about him at the moment. At his best he's definitely an asset for this team, especially with the way he's able to create time and space for himself on the ball and play under pressure in tight areas, two things that are pretty unique when it comes to Manchester United first team players.

As usual at least two midfielders are required in the summer and one of them has to be a deep-lying playmaker.
