VAR couldn’t intervene, it’s on the ref
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issue is there VAR can't intervene..... Why??? Because of some chit law?
What's the point of it then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think playing to the whistle is a shiiiit law?
It’s one of the most fundamental things that allows a ref to officiate a match ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't disagree, but var should be able to intervene if there referee has made a horrendous mistake, don't you think?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How would that even work? Once the ref blows, the game has stopped. Anything that happens between then and play restarting isn't legitimate. Defenders and goalkeepers will have stopped playing and you can penalise them for listening to the ref.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dunno tbh but we're talking about fine margins here.
The ref blew because he thought it was a foul, when clearly it wasn't. Player played on because why wouldn't you?
If the ref makes a clear and obvious error, it should be overturned... Can't be that difficult to implement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, the ref gave a foul that he thought was a foul. It happens sometimes.
"The player played on because why wouldn't you" is nonsensical. You wouldn't because the ball has gone dead. If the ref blows for a foul on halfway, why wouldn't the player who committed the foul dribble it all the way down the pitch (when everyone else has stopped moving) and pop it in the net in case VAR suggests it wasn't a foul? Its a ridiculous notion that things that happen after the whistle goes should be allowed to stand.
VAR can't review basic free-kicks because it would.mean you would need to gave a VAR review after every tackle in a game. It would be a huge waste of time. Even if VAR reviewed this and decided it was incorrect, what is the outcome? A drop ball to Villa?

Tbf didn’t Villa stay up a few seasons ago because the goal line technology wasn’t switched on which meant Sheffield United went down?
