Only reason villa stayed in pl was due to the total incompetence of all involved when football restarted after COVID and they stayed up when a clear goal against them wasn't given as someone forgot to turn on the goal line technology. Yes other results could possibly have changed as a result of this but I think they only stayed up on goal difference as opposed to being a point lower.
posted 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Just checked as memory not that great. They drew when should have lost and finished a point above Bournemouth and as a result would both have had same goal difference but Hawkeye farked up, a blind ref and linesman and var didn't intervene.

However, serendipitously that underlines that all clubs benefit and suffer from the vagaries of the officials and circumstances around decisions throughout the season and not just on the final day. Villa should be reminded of that.
Yesterday was unfortunate, no more.

“Villa … have made the second highest losses in Premier League history (£678m)".
If that is what lies ahead for us, I’d say right now, no thank you. Btw, I still have no idea why owners do this. Obviously there’s a convoluted reason but on the face of it, why bother?
————————————————
You missed out this very vital piece.
The good news for Villa fans is the funding for the transfers has come from the owners' pockets in the form of shares, instead of borrowing and incurring interest costs.

Think their wage bill is 96% of their income, madness.
Rich owners I believe but PSR makes it nearly impossible for most clubs going to the next level on a regular basis. Those that spent and spent and spent before before FFP have a massive advantage.
I don't have a solution but something needs to be done to help most of the PL bridge that unfair financial gap.

Indeed. However, a £678m loss must still be a considerable burden on the club, irrespective of the source of income. Surely it’s not sustainable?

Not being able to compete is sole destroying. An unfair competition is not a competition.
this is the subject in football that gives me that awful feeling that you can know too much as fans..
we see it on many levels and through out the media, the financial side of things.. FFP, contracts etc etc etc.. not saying things like this aren't important to know, of course they are but god, it really does ruin the fun on the pitch for me.
"yeah great pass, yeah great shot, we played well, great wingers, lots of pace, lovely tackle, brave goalkeeping" are the phrases i want to be hearing about football..
"we can't buy because the profit and loss account or the balance sheet have issues".. is a phrase that should be said by accountants, not football fans.
not saying its not important.. but you know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach for a split second when you think you've lost your phone, or wallet.. thats the same feeling I get having to speak about none-related pitch matters..
I like football... politics and finance shouldn't be part of a fans vocab

thing is, the 70's 80's and early 90's in England were awful in terms of pitches, and lets be honest quality.
we certainly don't want to be back there.. I'm just not sure I get why fans all feel the need to accountants.
see with this, comes other debates - for example the amount of posters falling out on here ref the contracts debacle a year or so ago... does an average fan really know more than a billionaire/millionair football owner?
there will be loads behind the scenes at football clubs that said fans just won't know of... it baffles me it really does.
would much rather see an exciting game of football, end to end, a red card, a disallowed goal, a blistering paced winger dancing his way through on the right.

The PL has been brilliant for football,is it still brilliant? Not for me now and for quite a few years.
As for the 1970s, so much healthy competition on the pitch, money not the biggest factor, that's an understatement. Of course there were lots of social problems.
