Let’s be clear here. No one is diminishing Ange’s EL win. We’re all very thankful for it but if the whole point of Sandy’s article was to tear down Poch’s achievements, someone has to provide some balance as to why, in my opinion, Ange still isn’t up there with Poch because progress isn’t only measured in trophies won. It’s the whole picture. In order to provide that balance, certain honesties have to be faced about where Ange left us in the league. It can’t be ignored. Is Ramos a legend? George Graham? Winning a trophy helps but if behind it all is mediocrity, no, worse than that - relegation form in the league, I’m not sure you can ever call someone a legend. I resent the accusation that you’re somehow less of a fan for not believing Ange was the future of the club or that you’re downplaying the EL win. It’s about truth. The fact is that the EL is a second tier competition. The only reason we didn’t win it with Poch was because we were dining at the top table. It’s like saying West Ham were a better side than Poch’s because they won the Conference League. It’s completely absurd.

Thanks for the cup Ange but legend? No, not for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ange finished 5th in his first season, that wasn't relegation form. And Spurs were never in danger iof relegation in his 2nd season, and he added a trophy.

Try to put some actual context to the two Ange seasons. 5th in his first, a big trophy in his 2nd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
See, you want to give Ange credit for finishing 5th now when you bash Poch who did the same in his first season and then bettered it each season after?

Then you'll talk about Poch having a better squad to work with, without giving Poch credit in helping to build it into that. There were plenty of players who improved under him and he didn't spend anywhere near as much money. Who are the players Ange has improved?

Whether we consider Ange a legend or not, I'm sorry I have to say he gets extremely overrated by fans for this trophy win. He definitely should get some credit, as Ramos should for his, but the way people talk about him like he did something no other manager could do. No, he did something other managers DIDN'T do, not something they COULDN'T do. There's an important distinction. And what that involved was faltering in the league and needing a rather generous standard of Europa competition to overcome with a sprinkle of good fortune in the final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah I want to also give credit to Ange for winning a trophy within two seasons. You can dress up a few top four finishes in five seasons how you want, but it doesn't come anywhere near what Ange achieved a few weeks back.

Well he clearly did something about 15 managers prior to him didn't do. And that is win a European trophy. You post like it is that easy to do. When it seriously isn't.

I acknowledge he did something they didn't. My point is it's made out like he could do something they couldn't, like they weren't capable, which I think is false. In the end circumstances fell kindly for him, circumstances that no other manager had. If other managers weren't capable then I guess was never capable of getting top 4?

Let's not forget that Levy did a poor impersonation of Levy last season and actually let a manager continue beyond terrible form. If it had been the same game guy he'd been for the past 20 years, the manager would have been toast long before progressing to the Europa final. That's something of a miracle in itself.

There's no point Spurtle. He doesn't want to listen to logic. At this point it's just straight up hate for Poch for no reason. I don't know, maybe he fought in the Falklands and can't live with Argentinians. It is just weird though. In fact, it seems to me that, given he was also Ange out back in Feb or March (he 100% wrote an article on it but then changed it), the only basis for god-like adulation of Ange now is to take a cheap shot at Pochettino and those of us that still hold him in high regard. It's almost as if THAT's what drives Sandy's love of Ange. It's just engineered to annoy people. It's probably got absolutely nothing to do with us winning a trophy.

There are those of us that are happy to have a decent discussion on here about all things Spurs, and then there are those like Sandy and Luka (who has eased off lately to be fair) who are more pre-occupied with pushing the buttons of other posters. They're genuinely not here for debate. Hw else do you explain the reason for this article...

It's just baiting, pure and simple. It's a toxic way to behave. Now he might come on here and say that I've called him a moron and that it's six of one and half a dozen of the other but it's not is it? Not really. Sandy likes to wind people up and I take the bait. Who's really starting it though?

It's time to ignore and talk to other posters. It's my own fault for reacting. I can't be arrrsed anymore.

If they were capable, they would have won a European trophy. Some had multiple chances to do so. The fact is they didn't. End of argument.

How many more times are you going to say you cannot be arrested, and yet you still come back with your war and peace nonsense posts trying to downplay the Europa win.

Spurs winning the Europa has clearly really hurt you. Just come clean, you hate the fact Ange has made you look a complete idiot.

It's as clear as mus you would have preferred Man United too have won, so you could have then had a completely free run at really slagging of Ange.

You really are one of the worse kind of Spurs supporters I think I have ever encountered.
