Done deal, this is the confirmation we needed.

I love that to keep up with the amount of content he has to post for his fans now he’s basically resorted to just reading tweets directly from his phone on his video updates

Would take a 36 year old Scholes now, at least we’d retain possession better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Controversial opinion, but launching the ball into space out on the wing is the most overrated thing in football. Scholes, Gerrard, Rooney etc always got praised for this but it's very simple for even amateur footballers. Like a golfer finding a fairway with a drive or a tennis player hitting the ball near the baseline.

And that's basically what the above video was praising.

Let's appreciate more complicated and skillful things than floating a ball out to the wing.

It's not difficult.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then why can so few players do it?

Scholes was a master at this and it was a huge reason for our wingers success. He'd give the winger a 1 vs 1 with the fullback 3-4 times a game.

Every professional player should be able to kick the ball out wide into space. It's like a darts player being able to hit single 20. A rugby player finding touch with a drop kick. Actually controlling the pass is a more difficult skill than the launching itself.

Nope. But that's an element that is often over praised in players when it's actually very straightforward. Let's focus on the things that are actually impressive.

Lack of pace would be the biggest concern.

-----------------------------------

Sesko is fast. Mbeumo seems pretty quick. Cunha not rapid but no slouch. Dorgu is quick. Amad has great acceleration. I'd say we've significantly upgraded on pace in the 2025 windows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure on Sesko tbh, the others aren't particularly quick though, but good movement and anticipation can make up for that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eh? Cunha, Mbuemo, Sesko and Amad are all pretty quick.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Having looked into the stats, Mbuemo is very quick, one of the top 10 in most stats in the PL.

Amad and Cunha don't rank anywhere in any ranks of quickest players, they're very average in terms of pace for the PL attackers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mbeumo recorded the 3rd highest sprint speed in the PL last season at 36.6km/h. Van de Ven was 1st with 37.1km/h.

Sesko's top speed in the Bundesliga last season was 35.7km/h, so he has good pace.

Amad and Cunha are somewhat slower at 32.4 and 32.5km/h respectively. Not especially rapid, but both are good at carrying the ball at pace and have good movement.

Can't say that i would be worried about a lack of pace going forwards.

Yes, so I wasn't exactly talking rubbish was I. Sesko was ranked 36th fastest Bundesliga player, Mbuemo yes he's very quick but the others average pace at best.

As long as you have an option in behind behind, then I think that's a big improvement on last season.

Every PL footballer should be able to make a 10 yard pass 99/100 times, they should be able to put a corner over the first man, they should be able to score from 8 yards out, yet so often they don't.

Your point is a bit of a nonsense, as there simply aren't many players that can pass the ball that far accurately and rarely miss a pass.

And its not really about being able to get it there so much. It is more about spotting and making the pass at the right time. And also about the weight of the pass, enabling the receiving player to take the ball/shot in their stride. Which Scoles was a master at.

It’s a real head scratcher that more CMs in the PL, well all CMs when being pressed in the middle of the park from any angle/position don’t just take 1 touch and set their winger up to attack 1v1 at the edge of the opposition box.

Sesko is showing as 26th fastest on the stats that I saw. And is just 0.3km/h slower than Haaland, who ranked at 10th fastest in the PL last season.

I think you are going a bit overboard on this, but we will see next season I guess.

We all know Bruno (if he stays) will be the midfielder
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the six which is the concern for most people, I think.

Casemiro's legs are well on their way, to the extent that he needs to be played alongside another six.

Ugarte has been inconsistent, isn't really a front-foot DM, and isn't the paciest.

Is six really Mainoo's natural role? I wouldn't say so, at all, and he isn't the sharpest, quickest, or most aggressive.

Collyer doesn't look ready to play every week, if he ever will be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we sell 3 or 4 of them? The problem is Bruno because BOTH of the midfielders serve a stabilizing purpose. We are signing more attackers which means we do not see Bruno and I guess Mount as good enough (which was proven I guess last season). Their options are midfield. None the options we have are going anywhere and combined with an undeniable fact that one midfielder is Bruno, they are all battling for one place. Do we add another player into the mix?

Midfield is postponed till we sort the Bruno problem.

Even if they literally ran a race of all bundesliga players (500+) under the same conditions not just measuring runs in games etc, then 26th fastest is pretty good. Would imagine not many CBs who he’ll be up against would be quicker.

This. Just look at comments from legendary midfielders.

Xavi: “trust me, there’s no better player around to deliver a 30 yard pass to a player way out on the touch line with no opposition anywhere near them than Scholes”
Zidane: “Scholes was the best long ball merchant I ever seen”
Viera: “he was a nightmare to defend against. For some reason none of our players ever went out to the wing and Scholes used to chip it to an unmarked player. We never figured out how to deal with that”
Pulls: “Paul was an inspiration to me. I wanted to play tiki taka until I saw his long ball game”

Yeah but these kind of passes get overly praised. Might as well have some highlights of a keeper passing it to his fullback.

Kicking the ball out to space at the side of the pitch, not impressive.

Yes, Scholes should have been passing to feet (around a foot or two margin for error) rather than into wide open space (20-30 yards). The latter is certainly easier.

Every goal from our new front 3 from last season.

Whether they click or not is another thing, but comparing some of those chances/finishes to the missed chances from Ras/Garna etc last season is clear to see that we do have goals in the side now.
