Good article.
My sentiment is that the ‘sloppiness’ of the defending for at least four of them, are elements of identifiable issues that Farke can get his teeth into to improve. When that tough run of games against the top sides comes in December, hopefully he will have gotten the defence better prepared for handling the inevitable wave of attacks.
Fitness levels need to improve also. As was noted, Stach looked out on his feet. I hope all the new signing see this need for upping the levels as a proper challenge that they are eager to take on.
One point per game should see us on schedule to survive. Even a home defeat against Champions League Newcastle, would see us on schedule to reach that target.
Summing up:
Leeds have beaten one team who have one their SECOND game and finished mid-table in THIRTEENTH place, and lost to the team who are TOP having won BOTH games and joint favourites for the title.
Sunderland have beaten the BOTTOM team, and lost to a fellow promoted Championship team, which lost 3-0 to Spurs, a notoriously inconsistent team. (Spurs won at Man City last season too)
Burnley, as above, lost to a team which has now won both games, and taken three points from a fellow promoted Championship team.
Perspective and patience lads…
Yep Real Estate - absolutely perspective and patience - I agree with all you said - 1 pt per game etc etc - Survival is the objective….but it’s a pretty sad existence isn’t it?
We are fully aware of the perils of relegation and we are nailed on for it by pundits and bookies….when we came up in 2020 it really didn’t feel like this was a burden and a huge challenge - now it does.
Thing is we will get beat heavily by the teams always at the top. Would rather lose one 5-0 then lose 5 1-0.
Possibly the reason most of the new signings didn’t start is because of fitness levels?
From what I've seen so far. A good win and a soul destroying defeat. We 100% need more players in if they are out there. In both games so far we have had to perform at such a high tempo just to compete that we will do well to still be in the hunt by next Feb/March.
Perspective & positivity.
West Ham & Wolves have both started with 2 defeats & they were both identified as strugglers before the season started. The Hammers in particular appear to be in an enormous mess.
I'm extremely confident we'll finish above both Burnley & Sunderland.
Brentford will struggle, were very fortunate against Villa.
Everton aren't convincing, we've already beaten them.
Bijol is a cracking signing & he's still to feature.
All the new signings are still finding their feet, give them chance.
No need for any doom & gloom yet. I firmly believe we'll be fine & won't need to scrape it in 17th. A couple of places higher shouldn't be beyond us.
Oh, and we're still above skum 🙂
Infinite One, the burden to which you refer is just media hype exploiting the results of the last two years. Because all the promoted sides have been relegated for two seasons running, the media have a fairly meaty bone to chew on - but that's all it is, hype to boost clicks and sales.
The Arsenal result was very disappointing but not disastrous, given their resources and experience, although I quake when thinking about what Liverpool might do to us at Anfield!
The reality is that the PL has two tiers. If we can beat or draw with those around us in the lower tier - clubs like Everton, who we've played off the park already - then we can survive and build. I'd be more worried if we'd lost to Everton and won at the Emirates.
That's not to say that I am totally relaxed about Farke's selection and apparent lack of flexibility, about signing DCL as our no9, about Perri's competence. It's clear there are questions to be answered.
But it's much too early to be resigning ourselves to life in the Championship...

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Morning all 🌞.
My take is, and picking up one of your suggestions Infinite, we should stop moaning and give him a dozen games minimum. Assess the situation after that👍.
Don’t forget we need to be averaging 1 point per game (max probs) and we’re doing that after the 1st two games. Sure, it was painful, humiliating, frustrating etc what happened against Arsenal, but this season we’re playing in a mini-league of 6-8 clubs and we just have to survive in 17th.
No to championship
Got to survive and consolidate and hopefully improve gradually into a top half team. Football will change again. Super league, PSR rules etc. We need the club as high as possible for when that time comes

You’d have been delighted with 3 points from your opening two fixtures. Everton are a decent PL outfit under Moyes and Arsenal were always going to smash you.
Why on earth you’re judging your team on a game against Arsenal I’ll never know. You can’t hope to compete with the top 3.
Getting a win opening weekend was a great start to the season, just enjoy playing proper football on the big stage. Focus on the games against Sunderland, West Ham, Brentford, Palace etc. Those are the interesting ones, anything you get out of the top 3 is a massive bonus.

Judging anything off the back of one of the three hardest games of the season, against one of the 10 best sides in the world, with a very strong home record, is apparently silly. Yes, there are institutional issues with the PL and it's setup, but that wasn't reflected in the Arsenal game.
Newcastle will be another tough match, and if we get battered by them too then maybe ask.some questions but calm down and have some perspective
