Transfer Reality Check

Do we actually know what Bamford got? I imagine it wasn’t a full years pay. Mutual agreement could mean anything.

Hamer in loan with an obligation to buy was big news yesterday. That might yet happen.

Hamer captain today.

Sargent maybe a £22m move to Ipswich 😱

Hamer - Hope not, Fatter and slower than me,

Could possibly get 2 in if we off load Piroe in a swap type deal assuming Piroe can be persuaded to leave with Leicester or Shef Utd as potential suitors and Leeds going for El Khannouss and Hamer although Hamer starting today looks like he's not going to be a new
Leeds signing and Khannouss not playing last night may
be a sign our owners are going all out for this player so as fans we wait patiently for some type of game changing signing before Monday night's transfer window shuts.

Nice article Kebab, well considered and a lot of good points. I know we're all frustrated at the transfer business but as you say, we're not one of the biggest draws any more (haven't been for decades!) so let's temper our expectations. I believe we have a squad that can keep us up – it's more a case of have we got a manager who can get the best out of the players? One way or another, I think we'll find out in the next 5/6 weeks.

Think it's Spertsyan or El Khannouss

More likely Spertsyan and El Khannouss goes somewhere else.

At least our set pieaces will be much better.

I'm worried about Okafor. He's the one with a lot to prove for so many reasons. Not many seem to rate him, he's hardly ever fit, as much as our most expensive signing this window (unless we sign El Khannouss) is here instead of Paixao, we loaned Ramazani out in the same position who many fans love. Had a poor debut & is already injured.

Feels like one that could become a scapegoat pretty quick.

Hopefully he recovers over the international break and hits the ground running

Don't think the Okefor injury is a serious one Faith and should be okay along with Amps and Tanaka and available for Fulham away but him and 3 or 4 others that seem to get niggles and injuries that keep them sidelined regularly is a concern and leaves us all holding our breath hoping we can see these players last the vast majority of the season at least unscathed.

5 stars Kebab. Excellent article.

My take:

I have no gripes about the club's spending this window.
100 mill is not to be laughed at. Add in PSR restrictions,
and I have no grumbles about the monetary outlay.

I do have an issue with signing multiple players either
for fees or on frees who have an obvious history of
injuries. Why? In the hope that a top medical team -
ours - can somehow keep them glued together. That
side of the recruitment, while I understand the thinking,
is really flawed. This is the Prem. You need players
available as often as possible. Three starters are
already sidelined and it's only our third Prem game.

On the recruitment team and the departures. My guess
is the ones who left didn't see eye to eye with Farke.
And the ones that did stay, for the most part were on
the same page as DF. Hence, 'Big Lad FC.'

I do like 'Big Lad FC' approach to signings, to an extent.
At least it was a plan. It was a bit different to the last few
promoted team's approach. However, there's next to
zero creativity. No 'Pablo-type'. Was that by design?
Did Farke want this? Regardless, he was backed and
he now has the squad people said he didn't have at
Norwich.

On the 'not able to shift the surplus players' that just
shows how scatter brained our recruitment has been
since Orta took over all the way to now. Okafor,
already injured after minutes, was given a 4-year
contract. DCL, oft injured freebie, given 3-years.
Couldn't we have negotiated a one year bonus filled
show us you are capable of doing this deal?

My biggest issue right now is Farke. He's sending out
weird line-ups. And making the same baffling decisions.
He still looks tactically inept. We supposedly built the
squad to adapt to a more pragmatic 4-3-3. It looked
good in pre-season. We looked solid in defence. He's
apparently ready to drop that and go back to 4-2-3-1.
Why?

Looks like Hamer's not coming. Shame. I like him.
At least he'd offer some creativity and guile. Which we
sorely lack. Maybe they've got one more rabbit in
the hat ready to pull by Monday? Hope so. We need it.

Excellent post, Kebablebs.

Signing DCL was for me a most unwelcome statement by the club but I sincerely hope I am proved wrong about him. I agree that it's too early to tell how many and which of the new signings will work but I'm already having grave doubts about Perri and Longstaff and had doubts about whether some of our Championship players like Piroe and Gruev would be good enough for the PL. It seems Okafor is our "marquee signing" and I can only hope he'll live up to his billing. You make a really good point about Hammond leaving and Underwood's promotion - we'll have to wait and see, I guess.

Lorrimer makes a good point: I've been defending Farke because I think he's a good coach and a decent bloke, but he too has questions to answer with regard to his selection, tactics, and substitutions.

I reckon Dyche is on standby if it goes pear-shaped with Farke as a lot of the squad fit the Dyche model/prototype for EPL survival plus the 2 ex Everton lads that are used to his methods or I could be completely wrong 🤔

Please God no on Dyche.

I'm sure they have a shortlist worked up Macca.
However, it may be a long rejection list similar to
our recruitment misses. Oh well.

Jesus!

Leeds is a film isn’t it…we’ve only just sat down to
watch the film…it’s only 3mins old.
Lots of premature opinions about the film, lots of
second guessing….is the film a repeat?
I think it’s a repeat…most of what Kebablegs written is
already known, what’s new, we all know our position
don’t we…survive this season and buildup from there.

I hope the team haven’t seen this film otherwise they
will have the psychology of ‘no hopers’.
Football transfers are a gamble, there are no guarantees
whatever price you pay for a player…but let’s give
them a chance, none of us are privy to what goes on
in discussions of contracts and wages…why bother to
second guess…only time we know anything for certain
is if a player, or the club, go public.

The film of Leeds United has a long way to go this
season, none of us know the ending….it’s all
speculation and second guessing, no change
there then!

Managers can tell players they are not in his plans
What happens next is up to the player, if clubs want him and then of course the finances

Great article Kebab 👍

Love this whole thread 👏 👏
My take is that letting Largie go may be the worst thing Farke has done and has made my mind up completely that we should look for a proven replacement with actual tactics. And please definitely not Dyche!
