Being British ✅
Being British and making Muslims feel like invaders and making minorities feel unwelcome ❌
It is to some people.
I was weirded out by the reaction I got recently over the internet for wanting an English manager prior to Tuchel. Some extreme reactions I got were that I was racist and xenophobic.
Really strange and sad to have reached a stage in which wanting an English manager in charge of England is an alien concept to some.
"Surely being invested into the very fabric ones own country is essential ?"
Why?
"Certain cohorts of our society today suffer a national sense of shame & a genuine lack of appreciation for the country that they are citizens of."
Hubris at its finest.
If you look back at the history of England, there is very little to be proud of.
We did do some good things, no doubt, but we were culpable for the deaths of millions over the centuries, committing atrocities in the name of Empire.
This current wave of faux patriotism is just that - false.
Being British and making Muslims feel like invaders and making minorities feel unwelcome ❌
==========================================
Wow, making Muslims feel unwelcome ?
I think you will find that there is a significant % majority of UK citizens from the muslim population in this country that thrive and benefit from their lives in the UK and live in harmony within the communities that they inhabit.
Now if you are talking about economic migrants from Muslim countries who are entering the UK with or without documentation on spurious grounds legal & illegal & the fact that UK patriots of all denominations are questioning if this country has the financial capacity , resources & institutional infrastructure to support this group who are largely economic migrants making them feel like unwanted invaders, then your terminology is accurate.
But the point is imo, I may well wish to desert my country due to the quality of life it provides but I know I cant just rock up somewhere and crash the system unless I can forfil the Visa - residency requirements. I will get kicked out swiftly.
So why should you feel that the UK is in a position to be able to afford what other more well off countries can afford?
There is a limit and currently the state of our economy and the dysfunctional nature of our broken institutions illustrate why we cannot continue with an open ended immigration policy for the worlds less fortunate.
I think the problem with British patriotism is that it's generally just "Sport Are Troops" people practicing it.
If British patriotism was more about positivity, and showcasing the good things about Britain such as... uhh... oh. Well there's the bigger problem; there's practically nothing to be proud of in Britain. At least a couple of decades ago we could have said our NHS systems, strong workers' and consumer rights, welfare and social housing and our international technology bases were something you could be proud of. But they're all being systematically dismantled by the same people that the "Sport Are Troops" people worship.
I definately feel that the Right have stolen my flag and it annoys me.
Surely being invested into the very fabric ones own country is essential ?"

A: Why ? seriously a country is built & exists with a populations unified ambition, that is weaved within the blood, sweat & tears that every day existence requires.

"Certain cohorts of our society today suffer a national sense of shame & a genuine lack of appreciation for the country that they are citizens of."

========================================
A: To make that Claim you disregard the lives & efforts of millions of UK citizens over the centuries who have given their all, for the very existence you disregard.
No hubris, simple honesty!
========================================
A: What qualifies you to suggest the current wave of patriotism is a faux, fake falsehood ?
Are you struggling because the silent majority are now speaking up & the minority who have been shouting the loudest are being questioned ?
"migrants from Muslim countries who are entering the UK with or without documentation on spurious grounds legal & illegal "
This is where your tenuous grasp of the law manifests itself.
NOBODY is illegal unless they are ordered - by a court - to be deported but subsequently abscond before this happens.
Of course, it never used to be this way - Pre-Brexit.
When we left the EU we also tore up the Dublin Agreement which allowed us to deport any immigrant to the country they arrived from.
Just another one of those nebulous Brexit "benefits".

Don't forget, net migration has trebled since Brexit. And almost all of them from non-EU countries, whilst EU citizens are leaving.

Try forgetting all that drivel you are wedded to.
The UKs economy and its capacity is the root of what we can & cannot do.
You can simply ignore this, but will not change the reality.
You argument is devoid of Financial relevance and smothered in ignorance & arrogance, as to where this type of assumption & thinking will leave this country.
But Liverpool fans boo the national anthem and it’s like we’ve murdered the royal family

Interesting,
Imo, the reality of today is that we creating a polarized society, up or down at either end, left or right and so on.
This has led us to the point where are now.
Successive governments have failed us, with short term gain politics, we as a nation, society have allowed the politicians we distrust & despise to lead us up this garden path.
We have been more concerned with matters of self interest than those of a united wellbeing.
We justify our lack of focused reality by stroking our largest in the form of an expanded welfare state & a guilt ridden reasoning for our delusional attitudes towards a supposed obligation to being a generous caring society to all ,that is in a position to help the worlds most effected. Despite the consequences to our own society.
We virtue signal at every opportunity, just look at our ridiculous Nett zero ambitions, totally absurd.
But is the point we do need to look at ourselves and take responsibility, currently justifying our wrongs by what has transpired in the past?
Two wrongs do not make a right.
My point is we do need to be invested into the very fabric of society for all & a little shared patriotism would not be such a bad thing!

Depends what you mean by patriotism.
Chasing people who aren't white and attacking them for being foreigners, race riots, Tommy Robinson, Farage type of nonsense, telling lies, making up stuff or intentionally ignoring facts about immigration and other cultural matters is just racism, xenophobia and geniusness.
When did racism and stoopidity become synonymous with patriotism?
Imagine a directive being sent out to Scotland fans not to wave a Saltire at Hampden because it might offend the away fans.

They aren't British patriots though.
They might think they are.
Why should I be "patriotic" to imaginary lines drawn on a map, which is what countries are, to the exclusion of all others that somehow do not belong to that imaginary area on a map?
Sounds so stoopid, doesn't it? Patriotism will be frowned upon by more enlightened future generations. Patriotism is a way to keep human beings in division and seperation.
Tis much better and makes more sense to be "patriotic" to the human race rather than an imaginary region demarcated by lines on a map.

Agreed it is all about context.
Supporting extremist thuggery of any denomination is ridiculous, and speaks to the polarization of the society we find ourselves.
Making up stuff, well if your honest that is lifeblood of most political activists, from MP's, commentators & media personalities.
The issue is being wedded to only one perspective and not considering the other parties view and stand point.
Plus most people tend to assuridley band around broad sweeping statements derived from familiar echo chambers that they inhabit & then ignorantly close down any opposing view
