Anyone who doesn't think VVD is world class needs to give their heads a wobble.

He is still probably the best center back in Europe right now.

He's still world class on his day but is he consistent enough now to be word class?

For every Newcastle & Arsenal performance it feels like he has a Bournemouth performance these days.

He made quite a few errors in the 2nd half of last season or at least plenty of times where he stood off or could have done more which is where the “another rare error” joke started I believe.

Fan banter is rarely a good indicator of actual performance.

Maybe you watch a lot of Liverpool games, who knows. But as someone that does, VVD was not back to his best last year, because his best was an incredibly high bar, but he wasn't that far off.

He'll tail off at some point, he's 34 now. But it definitely wasn't last season. Hopefully won't be this season either.

Solid, if youbsay so, but not brilliant, amazing, world class.

I'm not writing him off. Just saying that he shows signs of his age and will only get worse.

Well I mean he was immense against Newcastle for example. Probably will start slowing down at some point in the not too distant future though

World Class players, especially defenders, adapt their game as they get older. Thiago Silva signed for Chelsea at 36 and remained classy for a good 3 years
