He was an absolute genius.
Saw someone being harassed by a uniformed officer yesterday for not buying a tram ticket costing a couple of quid and threatened with a 120 quid fine
Very 1984

There will be justice in the end.
As the Nasis and Soviet Union found out, you cannot crush the human spirit.
What's more, Jesus Christ has been winning battles since the dawn of time.

That’s not even remotely 1984. Not buying a tram ticket is basically shoplifting and the fine has to be high enough to deter people from doing it.
I don’t think you actually understand the book at all, if this is what you take from it.

Of course it's 1984. It's the subjugation and exploitation of the masses. Obscene amounts of money being extorted from folk for not conforming and buying a ticket.
It's worse than the mafia. Puzo and Orwell both got it right.

1984 isn’t anything to do with financial subjugation. It’s about a dystopian society with a totalitarian regime, where even thoughts are policed (thoughtcrime), and language is even reconstructed and words removed to prevent any time of independence thought or expression, where it literally becomes impossible to openly express oneself.

I am shocked...absolutely shocked...
to find that some people on this notice board actually...
READ BOOKS!!!
I haven't read a book in years.
I've written a couple, however!
But they are technical books,...not for the faint of heart.
The last book I actually read was "The Boys in the Boat".
And that was because my wife forced me to read it.
I found it totally boring, boring..except the last chapter where they win the 1936 Olympic eights gold medal race.
A long long time ago, when I wasa young and naive...I did read a book by George Orwell....
"Homage to Catalonia"
about his time in the Spanish civil war..
I could have written a better book about Catalonia myself...but it would have featured restuarants!
