Apart from not scoring what I saw he was excellent. Should have put at least one away though!

Thats why I said target man and not striker 🤦🤦🤦

I’ve been really impressed with him. Even in his first cameo appearances you could see his deceptive pace, work rate, hold up play and physicality made him a real handful. He’s way more mobile than I realised, he can out manoeuvre the big centre halves and out physical the more mobile ones.

IF he stays fit he’s a really good no 9.

Downside, he’s never been a reliable finisher. Actually yesterday, I thought he was a bit unlucky… he hit the target, that’s the main criteria. He does have a knack of hitting the keeper though where the top finishers have a knack of missing them

I thought he was excellent yesterday bar the 2/3 chances. His hold up play was top drawer. also thought he looked really mobile which I wasn’t expecting.

Bamford would be getting slaughtered now if it'd been him!.

But it should be said with this team it shouldn't be a problem to stay in this league, lots to be done but it can be done!..

Agreed, something we have been missing for a long time is that ability to win headers, be strong, involve other players.

He tired, understandably. I am not so sure that Leeds sat back, more were forced back by a good, good team, desperate for a leveller.

I was so impressed by how Leeds contained them overall, we saw their performances at Liverpool and Spurs and offered them very little.

Sorry, went off on a tangent, should've been on match thread.

Bamford comment nails it.

First chance acceptable. Gets it on target running at an angle with defenders in pursuit

Second Chance is exactly the sort you’d expect him to score. Strength to hold off defender and break back of net.

Third chance a real goal scorer shows composure to chest down and finish.

Had a good game. Almost as good as Bamford

Think 1st chance would have been a great finish. 2nd was instinctive and a good save. 3rd was the one he should have scored from last as was in quite a lot of space.

That’s why it wasn’t perfect imo.

I think Im going to cut him some slack before comparing him to PB's proflgacy infront of goal as a stick to beat him with as he's still adjusting to a new team aswell as getting back to full match fitness and sharpness but one thing he is doing very well is he is getting into good positions and I want to believe he will sooner rather than later start to fire on all cylinders and be a major factor in us avoiding relegation.

DCL and Okafor workrate and attitude has been excellent last 3 games

Any comparison to Bamford is absolutely ridiculous.

He won everything in the air yesterday and gave us a presence we haven't had for years & years.

Regarding the finishing, that didn't seem to matter to many when Bamford had the shirt. When Calvert-Lewin starts to miss as many comparable sitters as him then a conversation can be had. Let's not forget this was only his 3rd start & will still be building up match sharpness.

Agreed! I want him to succeed for us.

In Patrick Bamford's first year with us at this level he scored 17 goals and was the third top scorer in the division. Worth bearing in mind when people rail at comparisons to him. If DCL does close to that he will have had a very good season.

Thought he had a really strong game the other day. He will have more challenging physical competition, and he should have scored at least once, but outside of that he was excellent.

Fair point about Paddy, though that year was an outlier for him... he seemed more relaxed in front of goal with no fans present. I think it's highly unlikely DCL matches that return. He doesn't have to - neither Bamford nor DCL convert a high proportion of the chances presented to them - they offer other things. Both can run the channels, hold the ball up, bring others into play. DCL offers more physicality and athleticism and strength in the air.

If he stays fit. If. I think he's going to be a really valuable player for us... but he will likely drive fans nuts in front of goal just like Paddy did.

If Bamford had ever shown any of the strengths Calvert-Lewin displayed on Saturday, then his finishing could have been more forgiven.

We now have a number 9 who wins everything in the air, holds the ball up with finesse, and also usually finds a teammate.

Yes Bamford had his good season in the Premiership but with fans present he just wasn't the same player. Pressure didn't suit him.

It was noticeable how tired Calvert-Lewin became late on against Bournemouth. He's clearly still building up his match fitness. Once he has that, if he's still missing decent chances then it will be fair enough to call him out. But his hold-up play is superior to any striker we've had for probably 20 years.

I expected that of him, Snow, so it's his movement that's impressed me most. Quicker than I thought, finds pockets of space, makes intelligent well timed runs.

His breakthrough years at Everton he had a decent goal scoring record, last 4 years or so, obviously with a poor injury record, his finishing stats were really poor. Maybe if he can stay fit he'll rediscover where the back of the net is... maybe he won't, but worth his place regardless for the rest of his game.

Interesting that Paixou has been quite average for Marseille and Muniz too I'd say has not looked any better than DCL and ironically is now out injured so maybe the footballing Gods have been kind to us as I think Okefor is starting to click and look like he can prove to be a bargain but yes it's still early days and fingers crossed we're still singing our players praises in a couple of months time.
