Not a great start by England but it's early days..

Cook and Kieswetter fail again, both out LBW which is a weakness both have shown too often.. Why is Bell sitting another game out.

posted on 23/10/11

to be fair hope, Cook wasn't out & Kieswetter was extremely unlucky as it stayed very low...

In their last 9 innings Cook out 3 times LBW, Kieswetter out 4 times. Missing straight deliveries is a clear weakness for both.

Looks like Cooks game needs to improve on sub cont wickets.

KP thrown his wicket away after slow go from Bopara.

posted on 23/10/11

Even if Bopara makes a decent Score, Which as I write he's out, he's clearly not an International class batsman. At best he's a good county player. Terrible technique and a frail character.

Great delivery from Jadeja to bowl Bairstow. The writing is already on the wall unless Patel plays a similar innings to his last.

I agree with Bopara. Very average but Bell is not the answer. England still need 250 minimum.

The Trott haters will once again see that when he is out they collapse to a modest total.

Bell may not be a great ODI batsman but he's a darn sight better than Kieswetter and Bopara. Anyway where are these great English ODI batsmen?

The average score at this ground for first innings is 236 so this match could still be quite competitive as long as England can bowl well.

Jim that maybe the case but India do love to chase. 221 to win will cause no problem for India to make it 4-0.

I know, I just want 1 match to be competitive, that's not too much to ask is it? As an Indian in Britain both the series in England and in India have been very disappointing in terms of entertainment, they've both been so one-sided. I'm just glad that south africa are playing australia atm :P

A score of 220 can be defended with good fielding and bowling on this ground. England can do it if they improve their pathetic fielding.

Cook av. 18
Kieawetter av. 18
Bopara av. 13

Bell who averaged 35 in the WC in India and is probably the best fielder in this squad is a fixture in the dressing room.
Cook is a terrible captain both on and off the field, complaining that they don't score enough runs and disappointed with their fielding.

Hope
Inclusion of Bell may not help. Indians have gotten rid of their aging/injured dead horses and with fresh legs are playing like world champs. Just compare fielding, Indians have proven better than England in this seriese where they were pathetic in England and English team was superb.

Neon your point is? England's a multicultural country, to accept the best of other cultures is not a bad thing. As for how Indians maneuver the field with their wrist, that's all down to conditions they grew up playing on, in the same way that the English batsmen could handle the fast swinging and seaming conditions a lot better than the Indians could in England. It's just a shame they both can't seem to do it on the same pitch at the same time :P

"they are English and have every right to play for England."

That I agree with.

England's best fielders are Anderson, Bell, Broad and Morgan, none of whom are playing, so that the fielding is below their normal standard is hardly surprising.

Thats true hope. But others are not that bad. Its just the pressure under which they are in makes them miss a few catches and balls. On the otherhand, India has inducted good fielders like jadeja and have gotten rid of oldplayers resulting in to better fielding unit.

Dernbach is a poor fielder and in this series Swann has been really bad tempered and his concentration in the field has been affected.
