Don,

Sorry about the last post, i got a twitch & hit send.

I'm not surprised i'm in the minority, basically because Friedel hasn't made any blunders, so there's not much to compare on that score.

I'm simply talking in terms of saves that each could make, which is equally as important.

Also as i say, try watching him when we concede a corner. He shows no interest in coming out, catching or punching, he just stands there relying on his defenders. And i dont like this part of his game.

He does bring calmness though, so i'm not anti-Friedel, i just think Gomes is the better out the 2.

When Brad signed I wasn't convinced about him, but he has turned into a safe pair of hands

To be fair crosses were considered his one flaw amongst Rovers fans. He generally doesn't like to come for them (although seemed to a fair bit yesterday) which can sometimes put you in trouble.

On the world class argument, obviously he's not now (or at least he wasn't at Villa so I assume he's not now) but around 2001-2006 I'd say he was the 2nd best keeper in the league after Cech, so I don't know where that would put him in the world but can't be far outside the top 5.

Exactly. Safe but not great. He does all the basics well, but you wont get too many great saves out of him, which i think could be the difference between 4th or not.

Again i'll reiterate, i'm not anti-Friedel but i wish he was more mobile. I know he's 40, but if he wants to continue being looked at as a Prem No.1, then he has got to be as fit & quick as our No.2 & No.3 goalies, which he isnt.

He is such a consistent keeper, except for when he plays badly.

I'm sorry Don but i am still sticking by original opinion. For easy reference i wrote this before:

"Also as i say, try watching him when we concede a corner. He shows no interest in coming out, catching or punching, he just stands there relying on his defenders. And i dont like this part of his game".

I have honestly never seen a pro keeper so static. If i were an opposing team's manager i would simply give orders to aim all crosses, free-kicks, corners & even throw-ins to the edge of, or just inside, our 6 yard box.

We just cannot rely on our defenders winning every single header from that range, especially when the attckers just need a flick & its in.

I'm really worried about this & very surprised this isn't being addressed.
