I completely agree.
Taylor would be my choice.
Morgan next, then Hildreth, then Bopara.
Good depth of options, but I would not pick Bopara.
Still reckon Morgan is in pole position myself.
I'm pretty sure he won't have gone to the IPL without asking the ECB if it was OK, and he has been in pole position since Colly retired IMO>
but hoggy are you reading any news?
BBC, Cricinfo,Guardian, and every other suggest that bopara is still the frontrunner,,,,guardian was even suggesting that the team for the 1st test has already been announced on wednesday, and that this game has no bearing on selection.
but myself would put morgan or taylor ahead of bopara .
I agree that Morgan will start the summer at six but how long will the selectors give him?
They are known for their consistency with selection but their are a couple knocking on the door.
Ginger, your point though is very much contradictary to the majority of press. Every journalist think that despite morgans ton ,bopara is the man inked to play at no.6
i do hope though that your e right.
I agree totally with yorkie's pecking order
Taylor
Morgan
Hildreth
Fat Sam
Bopara(no technique or temperment needed for test level)
I can't see beyond Morgan now while contemplating a successor to Collingwood for the immediate future.
I guess Taylor, fine batsman that he is, will have to bide his time. England now have a very well established set of batsmen for numbers one, two and three; which are Taylor's natural batting positions.
I think Morgan will replace Collingwood - i'm suprised its been reported differently in the press, Flower picked him last summer and he's the next in line as far as I can see.
Good on Ravi for playing in the county championship this season and playing well for essex.
Taylor will have to wait, I think he'll be in the top order when a place becomes available. He's a class act
Everyone in the media says that Bopara will get the #6 position.
I also agree with Yorkie's pecking order. I feel that Taylor is the best batting option, followed by Morgan (who I think is the natural successor for KP).
Hildreth is a decent option, and Patel could be a very good sub-continent #6 with his SLA.
Bopara is, in theory, the perfect #6, but he's 80 matches into his international career. He has talent, bags of it, but hasn't showed it on anywhere near enough occasions. England have a wealth of options at the moment, I'd rather us look forward rather than back (even if Ravi is still young).
Eoin Morgan for me. Bopara has had his chances. Morgan is the next cab off the rank.
Bopara will, probably, bat tomorrow.
If he fails, it's going to be hard for the selectors to justify him next week.
