hes norn irish thats good enough for me
Is this going to be the next "most hated" guy for all you 606 ers to talk about in the coming years? He is British but not English, and is successful and I know after years and years on here how much you guys hate that combination.
----------------------------------
I'm English. I think Rory is a fantastic talent and seems to be a nice bloke to boot. I'm not sure why you ask if he will become 'the most hated'.
Ah, reminds me of 606...
trashy article from a buffonn who stereotypes us as something we're not.
haha It's called years of experience on 606, debating with "bufoons or buffonns" who can't stand winners or anything non English. Rory has shown great skills today whilst not hitting fairways and greens and kept his round going, and now has birdied the fifth to lead by 8 shots. Fantastic effort by him. Can he hold it together come the 72nd hole? I hope so.
I think it's more a media perception, than that of the vast majority of people.
The media, currently, will be referring to him as British. If he chokes, he'll soon be the Northern Irish man again.
It was always the same with dazzler Darren Clarke. Played well - British
Played bad - the big Ulsterman.
Hope Rory can do it tho.
Good to see that everyone on here disagrees with my original post. Rory Mcllroy is a young kid who is playing stunning golf and if you really like this game then you ought to just sit back and applaud and admire his efforts. Another wonderful round of 68 last night and he leads by 8. Has there ever been a better finish to a golf swing?, and then watching the ball go 340 yards after he completes it. Any chance the others can catch him tonight?
Any chance the others can catch him tonight?
-------------------------------
No.
it's good to see him out in front. Quite frankly i'm tired of all the hype ordinary and boring englishmen like Donald get. Disgrace that he can get rto no.1.
Mcilroy may well be the future; is there any young golfer close to his talent?
I know what you mean. However the fact that Donald, Kaymer and Westwood have all been number one recently is great for the game of golf? Remember there are dozens of good players playing on various tours, and yet these guys are getting to the position of the worlds best player by using the points systems set up by the rules. I agree there is no way on earth that Luke Donald is the worlds best golfer but he obviously does well enough, often enough, so he got to be just that. Where is he this week? About where I expected lol
There are dozens of great young golfers on the planet but to answer your question, no, it appears Rory is just too good for everybody. What would we be thinking if this was his second major title already? He probably should have won the last one as well? Do you play the game? How on earth does he hit the ball that hard, and yet the whole swing stop "that dead" at the end of the swing? He is a joy to see and that's what sport is all about?
To be honest i love the guy. Thought he was a bottle merchant but not now. He is a future great. Mon the rory
I can gaurantee that i will be happily 'in bits' later when Rory wins, just as i was unhappily 'in bits' when i saw the poor fella have possibly the worst round in his life at Augusta.
I don't care that he isn't English, or anyone in any sport for that matter. I admire those that rise to the top of their particular tree.
Rory bud, i really felt for you at Augusta, as did many, many people worldwide. I'll be having a celebratory drink for you tonight though. Of that i'm sure
Great to see so many positive comments about this young golfing genius. It's a breath of fresh air reading your comments after the pain and torture I had to endure on 606 over the years, where winners were slated for just about everything, from the clothes they wore, to the hair style they had, to their personality being this, that and the other. I think we are all going to be toasting the new king of golf tonight. A guy who win, and does it with a cheeky face and a smile. Woods never gave us any of that, unless he was winning. Lets enjoy this victory together
anyone who knows golf will love Rory for a long long time...special player and i will be buzzing if he wins..looking good so far
He has now hit his 6 iron 214 yards and the ball stops about 10 cm from the hole on the scarry 10th par 3 hole. He continues to lead by about 10 shots and is playing the kind of golf that is impossible for everybody else on this tour to compete with. The highlight for me is his smiling face, personality and youthful joy. We have been robbed of that for years

We never had that with Tiger (unless you fell for his fake smile.)
People defended Tiger by saying all they cared about what his golf. We won't have to hear that with Rory.
He'll have tougher challenges ahead; on days when he's not quite so accurate i don't see his putting being good enough to compensate. But at that level; no golfer today will touch him. He only missed about 8 greens
I think i ehard the commentator saying he had only one 3 putt the full 72 holes and it came on the 16th on the final round.
also was that shane mcmahon(from wwe wrestling) with his dad at the end
The reason he only three putted once was because he routinely hit it within 12 feet of the pin.
Which is incredible, especially when compared to a major winner like Mickelson who spent half his time in rough.
The young generation look miles ahead of the old guard.
It is going to be fascinating to see what happens for the rest of the season, and I still smile at his casual attitude to the ryder cup when he burst on to the scene. The kid is a breath of fresh air, and I hope he can get himself into the ryder cup system and win us some points. That competition is my favourite sporting occasion in any sport, and he could be our star man?
I prefer the majors TBH. I don't think the Americans really care for the Ryder cup, although not amny golf fans seemed to accept that and preferred to praise our boys.
The way golf is right now, the Americans won't even be competitive in the Ryder Cup. Considering it took Europe till 1980 to produce a masters winner, that's a great turnaround for us.
lol I am guessing you like him a lot more than I do John
