Did any of you hear about winterburns comments which said we don't have as much money as we think and that we had a "big name" ready to come in the summer but it wasn't completed because the Cesc deal took too long?

It's all very interesting, I'll try and find a link.

I'm not sure if Nigel Winterburn really said what I said above but a few people on my Twitter timeline were talking about it. Very interesting if true.

In fairness, reading between the lines, it seems as if we've had this guy on our radar for a while now.

Perhaps Montpellier simply weren't interested in doing business with usin January?

I've not seen the guy play, so can't really comment on whether he'd be a good signing or not. Hopefully some of you guys have though.

Yeah, that's Juan Mata he's refering to there. It was all set up and readu to go then... we took too long and Chelsea swooped.

I've heard that from another source. I think it was Philippe Auclair on the Arsecast about a month ago.

I've seen him play four or five times, he looks a good player. He certainly isn't afraid of shooting when he's through on goal.

He's got an absolutely lethal left-foot, he scores some absolute crackers every now and then. He's got similar to RVP but obviously not as good.

I have no idea who he is. All I will say is his goal scoring record is not much better than Park's.

Given the choice of Matías Suárez, Lewis Holtby or Olivier Giroud, who would you most want us to sign/think is the most likely signing?

TBH I have no idea who any of these players are. But I'll still cream my pants if we sign one of them.

*Sorry, just realised Holtby and Suárez are competely different types of players to Giroud.

Lexy, out of those three I would probably choose Lewis Holtby. He's a very talented player who's been plagued by injuries over the past few years, but I can't really call him injury prone because his injuries have been so unlucky, they've all been serious injuries, but he's never picked up the same injury twice, if y'know what I mean?

We were close to signing Cazorla as well, apparently. Imo he wouldn't been a better signing than Mata.

I really rated him at Villareal, he hasn't really done the business for Malaga though.

I honestly don't think we had the funds for Mata from all this new information I've heard. It sounds like we had to get the Fabregas money to get him.

Obviously this could all be a load of tosh.

Holtby, is an attacking midfielder/winger who currently plays for Schalke. He's a real gem.

I'd have though you'd know better Batmanu.

Lewis Holtby is a really promising German midfielder who plays for Schalke. I saw him play early in the season and he looked good. I haven't really seen enough of him to truly judge him completely by myself though.

It was all over twitter a few months back, and there was an article about it somewhere. I think the Villarreal coach himself said that we were in advanced talks with them until Malaga came along and hijacked the deal
