Gerrard's hardly played all season and from memory has missed every England squad since the last tournament.

He was captain against Croatia at Wembley when we failed to qualify for the Euro's and the awful 2010 world cup.

He is the past, and past it.

Carrick has been the best English CM by quite some distance this season, if it were up to me he'd be a nailed on starter. But Capello seems to have developed some kind of grudge against him after the whole Community Shield episode last season - I dont know whether he'll even make the squad, which is a damn shame for both him and England.

Too much of Gerrard hating mate
Use your brain and not your heart mate..

Gerrard has NOT missed every England squad since the last tournament.

Also you keep picking out a single match Gerrard captained that ended badly due to a bad manager. Keep bitterness aside

On form I'd play Carrick ahead of Wilshere but for some reason he's never quite the same when he plays for England.

Honest, be honest now, Gerrard is past it, he's been part of 2 many failures and he's all about himself.

If the teams not built around Gerrard he gets found out, especially at international level.

This England is not and will not be built around Gerrard, he's not even a certain starter let alone captain

I would also drop Gerrard. Nothing to do with club rivalry, I just dont think there is room for him and Rooney in the same team.

Gerrard may not be as good as he was few years ago but he's certainly not past it. He still has the ability to striker into opponents and that alone is good reason to have him in that team since England are not full of world beaters.

The match against Hungary shows why a player like Gerrard is vital. He may not always show up but he has the ability to change games.

England will go 4-4-1-1, for the simple fact that it is the formation that brings the best out of Wayne Rooney.

Unlike Parker, Carrick or WilshereGerrard does not have the discipline or positional sense to play in a 2 man central midfield. He rarely does it for Liverpool and he hasnt done it for England since the days of Sven.

I would play him in Rooney's place whilst Rooney is suspended. But when Rooney returns, he should and probably will be dropped.

That's a myth mate..
He does play well in a two man midfield if you play him with a defensive mid.

The only time he struggles in a two man midfield is if you give him most of the defensive duties as he likes driving his team forward if they're not doing very well.

He does play best if you play him in a dynamic 3 man midfield or free role.

With Rooney suspended Gerrard would probably be played in a 3 man midfield and I do see England doing really well unless they manmark Gerrard.

That's usually what people say when they lose an argument I feel your pain lad.

How have i lost an argument? Didnt think it was one.

I just said what i and many others think Gerrard is not a certain starter, cant play in a 2 man midfield, has to have the team built around him and has been captain during some of England darkest hours.

Its a popular opinion, not sure why you want an argument.

Who are many others? Rival fans saying mythical things that a Liverpool fan knows better?? Gerrard has had success playing in a two man midfield so your point about CAN'T play in a two man midfield is a false myth.

England has never been built around Gerrard and who hasn't captained England in their darkest times, well do England ever have good times? Don't let your emotions get into your argument

In England every single player has struggled (apart from the new ones) and you just can't pick out a single player.

Exactly.

If you play him in a 2 man midfield, is he a better player than Wilshere, Carrick or Parker would be in the same position? The simple answer is no. He hasnt been played regularly in a two man midfield for years.

He played there the last two games against you lot and City
He also played their vs you lot last season before he got injured..

I know what you're saying though

.... i doubt England will play 5 at the back to protect him though

Lads completely forgot about Welbeck and Sturridge. Sturridge for me definitely has to take the RWF position. In Rooney's absence Welbeck would definitely start for me, I think he is actually suited to the lone striker role more than Rooney is, in the Euros he looked like he had a very good understanding with Sturridge aswell so maybe that is a partnership that should be considered if we go 4-4-2.

As for the other wing spot...AOC anybody?

The Ox is lookin lively. If he plays the bulk of the rest of the season, I could see him on the plane

^ This.
