More about me:

Currently living in Germany.
I am a large, mostly herbivorous mammal in sub-Saharan Africa, and one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae (the other is the Pygmy Hippopotamus.) After the elephant, I am the third largest land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl, despite being considerably shorter than the giraffe.

I am semi-aquatic, inhabiting rivers, lakes and West African mangrove swamps [3] where my territorial friends and I preside over a stretch of river and groups of 5 to 30 females and young. During the day we remain cool by staying in the water or mud; reproduction and childbirth both occur in water. We emerge at dusk to graze on grass. While we rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and we are not territorial on land.

Despite my physical resemblance to pigs and other terrestrial even-toed ungulates, our closest living relatives are cetaceans (whales, porpoises, etc.) from which we diverged about 55 million years ago.
