Yep, that's one up he has on Poch.
Not Chelsea calibre manager level yet - talking Conte, Tuchel & young Jose - but he's got a sound tactical head.
Sometimes i wonder what he could have done with the squad Conte had

I think towards the end of his Spurs time there was a lot of complaints he hadnt adapted to the changes in tactics changing. He never really evolved his ideas after the Southampton stint
It's a real shame Conte's such a batsh!t loony. He could've been Roman's last manager.
When you make an effective working system with Alonso & Moses (out of position) as the pillars, you know you've got a unique talent for football tactics
Maresca best in team achievement last season was finding a way to get Enzo to become a goal scoring midfielder.
His worst achievements are not buying a new GK and lack of flexibility on inverted FBs

So true....Moses has a PL winners medal ffs
Yeah making Caicedo Enzo actually work in the midfield has probably earnt him a lot of credit in the boardroom
We arent staring down the barrel of a 250m in midfield flops as all 3 have looked good buys when fit

Nah sorry this is Poch hagiography.
He was a total mess with no clear idea and we were midtable until March and got lucky with a kind run when all the other sides were on the beach.
Maresca had us in the top 4 for 80-90 percent of the season. Night and day difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not comparing like with like imo. Poch took over a Potter/Lampard train wreck. Maresca took over an improving team, with momentum, more confidence and had the luxury of less injuries in comparison.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's where I disagree, they weren't especially improving. Poch just had a nice run of fixtures near the end.
I didn't want Poch Out because I wanted the owners to bear the brunt of criticism but he wasn't cracking any code as far as I am concerned.

-------------------------------------------------------------
The previous 18 months of football before he came in we were dodgy w/Tuchel, cr@p w/Potter, and utterly hopeless w/Lampard. We were more of the same w/Poch for half the season before steady improvement in the 2nd half.
If Marseca had inherited what Poch did, very unlikely last season would've panned out how it did. You can forgot about that early season form for a start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't see evidence of this 'steady improvement' - I see us midtable until about April and then an easy run of fixtures, a load of teams on the beach, and Palmer in supernova form.
Im surprised the DOFs didnt pick Enrique
Maybe his tactical ideas didnt line up with the profiles they were picking

Poch was a vibes manager, so if the intensity ramps up (which it did in the 2nd half of the season) his management was becoming effective.
A big part of what made Marseca's early season form what it was last year was that same intensity. All those basketball matches before he decided things needed to slow down abit, that was the team playing Poch's football - with a better in-game tactician
Said on here a few times now. Put together Poch's ideology & man management + Marseca's head, and that's a Chelsea manager I'm perfectly happy with right now.

Nah not buying it. Poch injured half our squad and put square peg players in round holes. He got bailed out by Palmer and Caicedo.

It's a big season for Maresca, but possibly more so for the owners. If Maresca fecks it and they have to sack him, then their track record is gonna be awful.
Sanchez versus the PSG press could be scary. Wonder if Maresca will tell him to kick long.
