Market participants are mostly driven by emotions, and the crowd tends to make the same emotional mistakes at the same time. As a systematic trader, we can take advantage of these situations and do the opposite, resulting in profits when the errors in judgement due to emotions are eventually corrected.

The Broderick–Terry duel (subsequently called "the last notable American duel"[1] was fought between United States Senator David C. Broderick, of California, and ex-Chief Justice David S. Terry, of the Supreme Court of California, on September 13, 1859.[1] The two men had been friends and political allies within the Democratic Party. However, Broderick was an abolitionist, whereas Terry was pro-slavery. Intense political disagreements led to bitter resentments, which in turn led to a challenge to a duel and the fatal encounter in a ravine near Lake Merced in San Francisco.

Not long after the duel, both public opinion and legislation turned strongly against the custom of duelling. As of 2020 not all of the U.S. states have laws that specifically ban duelling. The site of the duel is now a registered California Historical Landmark.

Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has admitted she "didn't do enough" to promote racial diversity in her shows.

Kauffman, who also co-created Grace and Frankie, was asked on a virtual panel interview what she wished she knew when she started out.

"I just wish I knew then what I know now. I would've made very different decisions," she said.

Despite its success, Friends has been criticised in recent years for its lack of diversity, even by its cast members.

Kauffman added during the 2020 ATX TV Festival: "I mean we've always encouraged people of diversity in our company, but I didn't do enough and now all I can think about is, what can I do?

"What can I do differently? How can I run my show in a new way? And that's something I not only wish I knew when I started showrunning, but I wish I knew all the way up through last year."

Britain is about to pass a significant landmark - at midnight on Wednesday it will have gone two full months without burning coal to generate power.

A decade ago about 40% of the country's electricity came from coal; coronavirus is part of the story, but far from all.

When Britain went into lockdown, electricity demand plummeted; the National Grid responded by taking power plants off the network.

The four remaining coal-fired plants were among the first to be shut down.

The last coal generator came off the system at midnight on 9 April. No coal has been burnt for electricity since.

The current coal-free period smashes the previous record of 18 days, 6 hours and 10 minutes which was set in June last year.

The remaining three coal plants in the UK will be shut down within five years.

Then the fuel that sparked the industrial revolution here in Britain almost two centuries ago will be a thing of the past.

A mother who drank wine and took cocaine as her nine-year-old son was mauled to death by an "extremely powerful" dog has been jailed.

Frankie Macritchie was left alone inside a caravan with the 45kg (seven stone) American bull terrier cross, known as Winston, in April last year.

He suffered dozens of bite wounds when the "out of control" dog attacked him.

Tawnee Willis, 31, from Plymouth, admitted neglect and was jailed for two years.

Sentencing at Truro Crown Court, Judge Simon Carr said leaving the boy alone with the dog was "the height of folly".

Willis's friend, Sadie Totterdell, 29, from Plymouth, was jailed for three years and banned from having a dog for 10 years.

She admitted to owning the "dangerously out of control" bulldog.

Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza, aged 55, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest, the government says.

He was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell, his condition improved but on Monday he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, officials say.

After 15 years in power, Mr Nkurunziza was due to step down in August.

In 2015, the announcement that he would run for a third term plunged the country into chaos.

It sparked anger as some questioned the legality of a third-term bid.

There was a failed coup attempt, hundreds of people died in clashes and tens of thousands fled the country.

After a change in the constitution, he was able to run for a further term in last month's election but he decided to retire and was to be known as the "supreme guide to patriotism".

He was also due to receive a $540,000 (£440,000) retirement pay-out and a luxury villa.

Mr Nkurunziza came to power in 2005 after a civil war which left 300,000 people dead.

The former rebel leader took pride in the fact that his administration brought peace to Burundi.

But his government has been criticised for widespread human rights abuses.

These include "extrajudicial executions, disappearances, arbitrary arrests, sexual violence, extortion, beatings, and intimidation", according to Human Rights Watch.

Political opponents have been targeted and journalists have been imprisoned.

Mr Nkurunziza's wife was rumoured to have tested positive for coronavirus - a disease Mr Nkurunziza had appeared to downplay, holding an election in the midst of the outbreak, and even expelling World Health Organization representatives from the country.

The government has announced seven days of national mourning.
