Manchester City "need to get some leaders in that dressing room" to improve, according to the club's former defender Micah Richards.

City finished 18 points behind champions Liverpool last season and were beaten 5-2 by Leicester City in their last league game.

"They've just got a bit of a weak underbelly in terms of characters," Richards told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Until that is sorted, they are going to keep conceding these goals."

Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he is ready to return to the club "one day", having not set foot in Emirates Stadium since leaving two years ago.

Wenger, 70, stepped down in May 2018 after helping the Gunners win three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his 22 years in charge.

He has been invited back since, but says it was best to "cut completely" from the club after his departure.

"I thought it's better to follow from a distance," he told The Times

Wenger says his exit from Arsenal was a "very lonely, very painful" separation and he currently has "no connection at all with the club".

Former Paris St-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is due to fly into England on Sunday to join Manchester United.

The Uruguay international, 33, has been in talks with United and although there is no deal yet, it is growing increasingly likely Cavani will join on what could be a two-year contract.

Cavani is out of contract having left Paris St-Germain at the end of June.

He left PSG under a cloud following a disagreement with Neymar and feels he has more to give to European football.

United have been given a positive impression about the player's desire to play for the club and providing face-to-face talks confirm that impression, a deal will be done.

Twelve-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal raced into the quarter-finals with a straight-set victory over American qualifier Sebastian Korda.

Korda said in the build-up that Nadal was his "idol" but the 20-year-old struggled to match the clay-court specialist on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Spanish second seed Nadal, chasing a fourth successive title at Roland Garros, took the match 6-1 6-1 6-2.

He will face the winner of Alexander Zverev versus Jannik Sinner next.

"Sebastian will have a really bright future, such a great player and only 20 years old," said 34-year-old Nadal, of a player who calls him an inspiration.

"It is a real honour. All of our generation try hard to be passionate, play every single day at our best, and if that is an inspiration for the younger generation, that is good."

Jose Mourinho returned to Manchester United and humiliated his former club as Tottenham came from behind to record a famous Old Trafford win.

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane scored twice, with Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier also on target as 10-man United suffered a defeat on a par with their 6-1 thrashing at home by Manchester City in 2011.

It meant it was not only the heaviest defeat since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge in December 2018, but also the largest United have suffered since Ed Woodward took over as executive vice-chairman in 2013.

The result leaves United 16th in the Premier League, with newly promoted Fulham and West Brom the only clubs with a worse goal difference. Only West Brom have conceded more than their 11 goals.

United were completely outplayed, even before they were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half when Anthony Martial dragged his hand across Erik Lamela's face in reaction to an elbow in his neck.

In contrast, Tottenham moved up to fifth after emerging from a packed schedule of five games in 11 days in three competitions with a creditable four wins and a draw.
