Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says no contact has been made about assistant John Terry for a management role.

Former Chelsea and England defender Terry has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Bournemouth, who sacked Jason Tindall last week.

Terry, also linked with Celtic, has been at Villa since October 2018.

"For somebody to leave a club and go to another you need them to contact us, and we haven't been contacted," said Smith on Friday.

The Shropshire Senior Cup is a county cup football competition that is open for professional and non-professional senior football teams in the English county of Shropshire.

The competition is one of the oldest cup competitions in the world, and notably, the original winning trophy is still presented to the winners, some 130 years after the Cup's inception. It is organised by the Shropshire Football Association and is annual.

The competition was first staged in the 1877–78 season, the inaugural winners being Shrewsbury F.C, who beat Wellington Parish Church Institute 1–0. (Shrewsbury F.C are not connected to the current Shrewsbury Town, and dissolved late in 1879.)

Other county teams to have featured in the cup in recent years have included Market Drayton Town, Shifnal Town, Bridgnorth Town, Ludlow Town and The New Saints

Brighton were left frustrated as they had to settle for a goalless home draw against Aston Villa despite creating a multitude of good chances.

Graham Potter's side recorded more shots - 26 in total - than they have ever managed before in a single Premier League match.

Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez starred, denying Alexis Mac Allister, Dan Burn and Joel Veltman with fine saves.

Brighton also extend their unbeaten run to six matches in the league.

Villa sit eighth in the table, level on points with Tottenham and just four points off fourth-placed Liverpool having played two games fewer.

The National Institute of Population and Social Security Research estimates that Japan’s population will decrease to 100 million people by 2049 from where it is now at 127 million and will continue to decrease to just above 50 million by 2100. Japan’s population decline has several social and economic repercussions, such as one-third of the population being elderly by 2036 and a lack of working-age people to help keep the economy growing.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has ordered the country's biggest city Auckland to go into lockdown after the discovery of three new local cases of Covid-19.

The measures will last three days and require residents to stay at home.

Ms Ardern said the country was going "hard and early" after the cases were identified.

New Zealand has won widespread praise for its handling of the pandemic, going months without community transmission.

The country closed its borders entirely to almost all non-citizens or residents early on in the pandemic, aiming to eliminate the virus.

New Zealand, with a population of five million, has recorded just over 2,300 cases of Covid and 25 deaths.
