The silent era existed from c. 1896 until the first full-length sound feature or "talkie" The Jazz Singer, was released in 1927. The silent film era ended in about 1929 in American cinema.
Cardiff City have sacked manager Steve Morison with the Bluebirds 18th in the Championship after 10 games.
The former Wales international took charge of the first team after Cardiff sacked Mick McCarthy in October 2021.
Morison brought in 17 new players during the summer, but Cardiff have won just three league matches, losing 1-0 to Huddersfield most recently.
Mark Hudson will take interim charge of the first team assisted by Tom Ramasut while the club consider their options.
"We'd like to thank Steve for his efforts during his time at Cardiff City, stabilising the first team last season and helping to evolve our squad in line with the club's philosophy this summer," said a club statement.
"We wish him the best for the future."
Having steered the Bluebirds away from a relegation battle last season Morison was handed a new contract until the end of this season.
After being among the league's most active clubs in the transfer market, the season got off to the perfect start with a 1-0 win against promotion favourites Norwich.
However, Cardiff have won just two games since - a 1-0 win at home to Birmingham and a 3-2 win away at Middlesbrough.
Saturday's defeat away at Huddersfield was the fifth time in 10 league games that the Bluebirds failed to score in.
That loss saw the club drop to 18th, just one point outside the relegation places.
St Mirren stunned a subdued Celtic by inflicting their first league defeat in 364 days and ending the 100% start to their Scottish Premiership defence.
Mark O'Hara rose unmarked to head the Paisley side in front shortly before half-time - the only effort on target in a largely flat opening 45 minutes.
And Jonah Ayunga nodded the impressive hosts' second after the break to inflict Celtic's first league loss since defeat at Livingston on 19 September last year and leave them two points above Rangers at the summit.
A third league win of the campaign takes St Mirren above Livingston into third place on goal difference.

Brighton have appointed former Shakhtar Donetsk and Sassuolo boss Roberto de Zerbi as manager.
The Italian, 43, has been out of work since leaving Shakhtar in July because of the war in Ukraine.
De Zerbi has signed a four-year contract at the Amex Stadium, subject to a work permit.
He was Brighton's first choice to replace Graham Potter, who quit to take over from Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea this month.
Former Napoli midfielder De Zerbi, who impressed during three years in charge at Italian club Sassuolo, has brought his coaching staff with him, although all will need work permits.
It is hoped the coaching structure will be in place for Brighton's next match against Liverpool at Anfield on 1 October.
"I am absolutely thrilled Roberto has agreed to become our new head coach," said Brighton chairman Tony Bloom.
"Roberto's teams play an exciting and courageous brand of football, and I am confident his style and tactical approach will suit our existing squad superbly."
Technical director David Weir said: "Roberto has shown his undoubted ability with his work in Italy and Ukraine, and what he achieved at Sassuolo certainly stands out.
"In his short spell with Shakhtar he enjoyed further success, leading the club to cup success and topping the Ukrainian league before the war brought an abrupt halt to his time there."
