Olivier Giroud became the oldest scorer in France's history as they beat Austria to boost their hopes of avoiding Nations League relegation.

Les Bleus dominated, with Kylian Mbappe having an early goal ruled out for offside and Aurelien Tchouameni's bicycle kick being tipped onto the bar.

Giroud set up Mbappe for a fine opener, taking on several defenders before firing in from 16 yards.

AC Milan striker Giroud, 35, brilliantly headed in France's second.

At 35 years and 357 days, he is 70 days older than Roger Marche was when he scored against Spain in December 1959.

Giroud is now only two goals behind Thierry Henry's France record of 51.

France, who would have been relegated if they had lost, move above Austria going into Sunday's Group A1 finale in Denmark.

Roger Federer's final match will see him play alongside old rival Rafael Nadal in the Laver Cup doubles on Friday.

The pair will represent Team Europe against Team World's Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe at London's O2 Arena.

Before that match, Andy Murray will start the evening session in singles against Alex de Minaur at 19:00 BST.

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner, said last week he would retire at the team event, which starts on Friday.

The 41-year-old Swiss said it would be "wonderful" to play alongside Spaniard Nadal, 36, who has 22 major titles.

"I'm not sure if I can handle it all but I'll try," said Federer.

"I have had some tougher moments as well in the past, being horribly nervous all these years sometimes before matches. This one definitely feels a whole lot different.

"Of course, it's super special playing with Rafa. I'm happy to have him on my team and not playing against him."

A concerning factor during England's winless run has been the lack of goals.

Southgate's side have now gone 495 minutes without scoring in open play, with Harry Kane's penalty against Germany in June their only Nations League goal.

Their last open play goal was scored by Raheem Sterling in a 3-0 win over the Ivory Coast in March, while they have not scored in a competitive match since beating San Marino 10-0 in November last year.

In fact, San Marino are the only other nation yet to score a non-penalty goal in the 2022-23 Nations League.

Italians are deciding whether to choose their most right-wing government since World War Two, in an election being followed closely across Europe.

Giorgia Meloni leads the far-right Brothers of Italy party and is aiming to become the country's first female prime minister allied with two other parties on the right.

She has softened her image and resents being linked to Italy's fascist past.

Almost 51 million Italians have the right to vote until 23:00 (21:00 GMT).

President Sergio Mattarella cast his ballot early in the Sicilian capital Palermo, while Ms Meloni's main rival - centre-left leader Enrico Letta - voted in Rome and her far-right ally Matteo Salvini voted in Milan. There are 2.6m first-time voters and 4.7 million abroad.

Giorgia Meloni backs Western sanctions on Russia and has toned down rhetoric on Europe.

But she still embraces an old slogan adopted by the fascists - "God, fatherland and family" - she has spoken out against the "LGBT lobby" and called for a naval blockade of Libya to halt migration.

Howard Wilkinson (born 13 November 1943) is an English former footballer and manager. Despite having a low-profile playing career, Wilkinson embarked on a successful managerial career. He won the First Division championship in 1992 with Leeds United, the final season before the creation of the Premier League. As FA Technical Director he was instrumental in the planning and development of English football's first National Football Centre. To date, he remains the last English manager to win the top-flight league in England. He later had spells as caretaker manager of the England senior and U21 teams.

Wilkinson is currently the chairman of the League Managers Association.

Planned concerts in Poland by Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters have been cancelled amid outrage over the musician's stance on the Ukraine war.

The concert's promoter, Live Nation Poland, confirmed the cancellation but gave no reason for it.

The controversy was triggered by an open letter Waters wrote to Ukraine's first lady, Olena Zelenska.

In it, he said, "extreme nationalists" in Ukraine "have set your country on the path to this disastrous war".

He accused her husband, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, of failing to fulfil his election campaign promises to bring peace to the Donbas region and and made no mention of Russia's responsibility for the war.

In response, Mrs Zelenska wrote on Twitter that it was Russia which invaded Ukraine and was now destroying its cities and killing civilians. "Roger Waters, you should ask for peace from the president of another country," she wrote.

Mr Water's open letter led Łukasz Wantuch, a Krakow city councillor, to urge people to boycott the concerts.

Jonny Evans says he intends to continue playing international football for "as long as I can" as he approaches his 100th Northern Ireland cap.

The centre-back is set to become the country's fourth male centurion against Greece on Tuesday.

The milestone will come 16 years after his debut in the famous 3-2 home win over a star-studded Spain.

Evans made his 99th appearance in Saturday's 2-1 win over Kosovo, finishing the game as captain.
