I haven’t seen this incident but getting the ball is irrelevant if the player has used excessive force which could inflict injury on the player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which absolutely wasn't the case.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why isn’t it? Your bodyweight at speed, studs up, on someone else’s leg (not even foot) is almost the dictionary definition for me
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I don't actually think any of that is true to be honest. Each to their own though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What part? The two connecting?

Shaw literally wins the ball. He literally kicks the ball on to him. He can't stop the momentum. Stupid stupid rule. What's he supposed to do? Freeze in the air the millisecond he wins the ball?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Touching the ball isn’t winning it fairly
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hahahahaha. Getting to the ball first isn't fair. That's a new one.

If that went against Spurs you'd be livid and you know it.

Still in shock that the Maguire one was chalked off.

Atletico on course to go 4 points clear, with still 2 games in hand

Shaws was a foul, got the ball but a bit reckless, so I only half agree with Winston. FK was right in the end which rules out his later wrong decision not to give a red for the foul on Cavani imo.

Maguires header was fine for me though.

Straight legged, studs up, reckless out of control .Definite foul.

Could d have been a red. Agree with the ref giving a yellow.

Officials got both decisions right. Shaw getting a little of the ball saves him from getting red so yellow is fair.

Also looked like a foul by Maguire for the goal.

Some people seem to think you can play football without your feet leaving the ground it seems.

What would the rule have been if the Burnley lad did a leg breaker rather than denying a goal scoring challenge? Still get overturned because of the Shaw challenge or still a red because he breaks a leg?

Shaw didn't win the ball, the Burnley lad played it forward. Shaw got a slight touch, but the lunge meant he was not in control and led to his studs going into the opponents leg.

It has nothing to do about what team it is so don’t use that pathetic argument.

No touching the ball first didn’t equate to winning the ball fairly.

It was a lunge. Surely even you can't argue with that.

In absolute shock that the Scousers are the only two people on here who think Maguires goal was correctly ruled out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Red because of dangerous challenge. When the offence is due to the circumstance which then no longer exists it will be ruled out.

Looks worse every time you see it as well. Think he can count himself lucky not to get red but yellow was probably right for me.
