We lost to two better teams because of some comical defending.
Tactics go out the window when your defence are awful.

the defence was exposed due to the managers brainless team set up.... some might call that tactics?

You do realise that in a game of football, even with the greatest tactics in the world that defenders are exposed?
It's their job not to give away 3 penalties in a game from mistakes that are entirely avoidable.
But some people on here are working backwards with a belief our tactics were bad so therefore of course the poor innocent players had no choice but to concede 3 penalties.
Under Klopp/Jose/Rodgers etc players NEVER concede penalties.

You can say that about any manager in the PL.
The simple fact of the matter is that Liverpool came into that game in red hot form and we weren't.
They got 3 penalties from defensive mistakes and we played badly.
Obviously Moyes made errors but in the scheme of things (one team in form beats another team not in form) then that hardly means Moyes should be sacked.

You act like 'playing possession football' is something that can be switched on like a light.
SAF had us playing counter attacking football for the past few years and beyond. It's drummed into the players.
Maybe Moyes wants to change that, maybe he doesn't. But when you have the defenders we have and the slow midfield we have it's very difficult to become a possession based team in one season.

Noone is saying that and noone argues "our tactics were bad so therefore of course the poor innocent players had no choice but to concede 3 penalties"
Moyes's defensive tactics are in no way the best or brightest but atleat he can hide behind individual errors and poor player,
most people are complaining about our offensive tactics, We have top attacking players in PL, How did Moyes used them against City/liverpool?
The first ten minutes against us, I think it can be argued was a tactical balls up completely, which is why he was even looking to change personnel away from a like for like and bring on Valencia when it looked like one of the CMs had an injury (Carrick I think?). Us sitting back and you guys changing to a more familiar formation is what allowed you back into the game for a bit at the end of the first half.
As soon as Kagawa came on though, you had the same issue as before in that the CMs were exposed and the flanks came back into play for us, which Silva could exploit time and time again - the ball went between your lines to him, then out wide.
There are of course player issues there in terms of the central midfield being a mismatch at the weekend. At the same time, I thought his lineup was pretty good, just not how he employed them in those opening stages. The thought process of using an experimental formation for the 15 minutes at home in a derby against one of the better teams was just bizarre to me.
For me, I still don't think he has found the right balance between playing to your own strengths and countering opponents, particularly against the bigger teams. He looked to counter us on monday by flooding the midfield. The issue was the formation he used was slightly alien to the players and we could still cut through the crowd - at the other end, it left you unable to break and transition at any pace at all until he made the formational change.
It would be naive for anyone to say that investment isn't needed in your playing staff. It is equally naive to think that Moyes has not made serious tactical errors this year, it is blindingly obvious he has.
