u know the issue would be, can he play the disciplined role in mf? Hes also very similar to jones or the role/position elliott would probably need to play to fit in. That with ox keita shaq too. More like these players than Gini. He has much better offensive stats than our mf but then again so did Keita before he came.

decent article on him comparing stats to what we have.

Again solve liverpools mf problems, how much is this down to Klopp and the system? Just have to look at Gini for club/country for example. But yeah be interesting to see how he fits in if Klopp signs him.

The midfield needs to evolve...I'm sure the club has highlighted this.

Also Thiago was finally coming into his stride in the last 10 games. Excited to see him do that for a full season.

he had a few good games before the injury vs Everton, a lot of them could surprise us if they stay fit and hit form. Issue for too many of them is staying fit.

Aouar was man of the match against City in the CL quarter final game a year ago. He would be a good addition.

Thiago had our third highest amount of minutes from midfield which I found surprising.

Absolutely class player.

Aouar Fabinho and Thiago would be a class midfield.

You cant drop Henderson from the midfield surely, regardless of age, injuries and contract talks.

Aouar reminds me of Fekir from a couple of summers ago. Technical, attack-minded midfielder who will get goals.

We lose games when Henderson doesn't play. Like FAR more often.

Yeah, Hendo still remains a really important player for us. I think we need his legs in there personally otherwise we lose a bit of balance as Thiago/Fabinho aren't the most mobile of players. Particularly need him now Gini is gone.

Think we do need somebody else to come in though as he does get injured a lot.

again maybe its time to move away from a system that relies on having these players we have to be over reliable on. Thats what good coaching is, and being versatile.

posted on 22/7/21

Don't change something that works though. Last year was an anomaly for now as far as I'm concerned with the amount of injuries. If it's another poor season this time, then yes, I'd consider changing, but not right now.

At the end of the day, you have to rely on your reliable players and your best players like Henderson, Salah, Van Djik, Mane etc. It's why they are branded as reliable in the first place.

posted on 22/7/21

Well thats down to them to decide what im saying is you don't necassarily have to force players into a system if theyre not suited maybe its better to change the system especially if the players good in it are getting on or injury prone.

One that opposition are probably savvy to again. And one these reliable players are used to and suited to, where as maybe the other squad player who arent seen as reliable aren't suited.

The key areas would ofc be bobbys and the mf 3 with elliott jones the loss of gini. Those are the question marks ofc, but theres some others say mane or salah are injured or when they go afcon.

Last year we had slow defenders who didn't push up which resulted in big gaps between all the lines.
A good team plays with a distance of 20-25 metres between the defensive and attacking line to make it very compact.

The team wasn't significantly deeper than most seasons, it was still a high line but of course the likes of Phillips and Williams are likely to drop off to give them a better chance of defending a particular situation. We are talking a matter of 5 yards maximum, not 20 yards.

posted on 22/7/21

Pretty sure I saw Phillips and Williams rushing back absolutely carping themselves a few times.

You keep saying this, but we absolutely still played a high line even with a make shift defence. I agree that at times we may have dropped off a bit more than usual if VvD and Gomez had been back there but you go on like we were play deep. We weren't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to watch the games which we lost. Slow defenders have the tendency to run away from the attackers and drop deep. Klopp always want quick defenders at the back to be comfortable in 1v1 if they are isolated.

I remember games like at home against Everton, Brighton, Burnley and Leicester, Madrid away when Phillips, Kabak and Fabinho were all over the place. I want defenders who are quick, have good positioning and tall. VVD, Matip and Konate are the right defenders.

Our style is about defending from the front and if they break that press you need defenders who can deal with the danger of through balls or balls over the top.

posted on 22/7/21

Which is great... but we still played a high line.

posted on 22/7/21

You can start with a high line but those defenders will always drop deep. Its their natural instinct. You can get away with it if you have a Chielini type who is very good at positioning.

Does Hendo still start if we move to a 4-2-3-1?
