Brighton weren't better at all. They had good periods in the game, as did Liverpool and should have been down to ten in the first half. Liverpool therefore likely would have won the game, being 2-1 up at the time.

Ok, I disagree but I’m going to leave it there because I simply do not have the energy or patience to deal with a TOOR argument all evening

Brighton were good value for a point. TOOR can cry and whinge about the red card incident as much as he likes, but that is the reality.

Wasn't even a subjective one either. Was a simple application of the law. Denied clear goalscoring opportunity without challenging for the ball, a pull back, the very definition of a red, in law.

Had a good laugh at the wrist slitters on the match thread talking about double jeopardy, including your good clueless self. To people who understand the game, that doesn't apply unless you make a genuine attempt to challenge for the ball, which pulling somebody back obviously isn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven’t seen a reply since the game but doesn’t he go for the ball as Szoboszlai is going down?

It really isn’t a great injustice that cost us the game though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So he tries to play the ball after he fouls him and Fred's World that means it's not a red.

It absolutely is some injustice. I mean if playing against eleven men, instead of ten, at 2-1, as should have been the case isn't an injustice then I don't know what is.

I understand why wrist slitters want to be negative and I agree if that event didn't happen, then a draw would have been a fair result since both teams had period in the game, sloppy passing out from the back and too much passing around in their own half but it did happen and it was a massive injustice. The referee didn't apply the law correctly and the VAR didn't alert him to this clear and obvious error.

That's another point of inconsistency because sometimes refs send them off sometimes they don't. PGMOL are just sheet at everything.

We can all agree with that.

I agree. On balance of play we can have no complaints about the draw, I personally think Brighton edged it overall. But if we’re talking game changing incidents then it really does come down to the penalty. I didn’t even know that double jeopardy existed tbh, but having seen what’s been said then I don’t think it counts here. He clearly pulled his shirt well before any apparent attempt to play the ball.

I really don’t understand why they didn’t at least have a conversation about it.

Ref bottled sending off Guimeraes today for Newcastle. 2 clear yellows but because the 2nd foul was minutes after the first he was given a life. There is clear Newcastle bias from these refs.

Didn’t that happen to Trent in the game against Newcastle?

What happened was Trent was barged in the back, nearly flying into the advertising boards and the ref did nothing then gave Trent a yellow for kicking the ball back onto the pitch.

Really not seeing how Brighton edged it. They had one great chance apart from the two goals, Liverpool an even better one, hitting the bar with an open net, same shots, more shots on target, more possession, more xGs.

People like to give even games to the plucky underdog but if anything Liverpool edged it and certainly if the officials did their jobs then it would have been very likely Liverpool would have easily won the game. It seems it's so easy to send a Liverpool player off but it doesn't happen for teams we're playing.

It's got that bad this season I'm beginning to sound like BitterBilly. In a normal season we'd be sitting top.

Agreed but we have to cut out the silly mistakes. Both goals were ridiculous. Mac losing the ball again and Robbo failing to deal with the cross and instead doing an in flight ballerina manoeuvre. If that was TAA he'd have been slaughtered.

We are still pretty much a new team, it's still early and the performances and results are already very significantly improved. Expect us to get better with time and really go on some runs as the season progresses.

Everton early kick off on Saturday after international break yet again. Somebody needs to make some noise about this. At least we are at home but im these early games we are sluggish and ponderous while our opponents are buzzing all over the place and doing their best imitation of Pep Barca.

It will be the Derby so we should be up for it plus new stand officially opens so more noise

The new setup doesn't play to Robbo's strengths. He's been iffy for a while now. His best games have still been when he's allowed to play like a traditional fullback.

We're still a work in progress but the signs are mostly positive

Think we'll know exactly where the team is at and what we can expect this season after the next 4 games before we play City.

They are:

Everton H
Forest H
Luton A
Brentford H

A title challenging/winning side should really be winning all 4.

I liked Gravenberch’s cameo yesterday aside from the miss.

Think he’s our best midfielder not named Szoboszlai.

I feel bad for Mac, just never going to see the best of him in that position. When is Bajcetic back?

posted on 9/10/23

Yeah anything less than 12 points and we only have ourselves to blame

posted on 9/10/23

I don't get why Endo was only given 45 mins in Ropey league and then does not start or play against Brighton. With Mac as DM we are way too open. It will work when you can bring Jota and Gakpo off bench but we didn't have the numbers yesterday.

posted on 9/10/23

I rather Mac at our DM than Endo. We just have to stick it out till Jan at least

posted on 9/10/23

Endo hasnt looked like losing the ball cheaply and his efforts much better. Mac Allister looks like hes gonna cost us a goal every game and he literally walks about ball watching half the time.

posted on 9/10/23

Yeah I’d rather Endo than Mac in there at the moment, I’d have Mac where we’ve seen Jones / Grav / Elliot.

posted on 9/10/23

You can see Mac is not enjoying the DM role. I do think the VVD pass into him was a hospital pass from VVD but he was a little on his toes. We have 4 games now where we can survive with him in DM but not against City.
