I would assume the issue is more on the exact make up of the deal rather than the total amount. Would it make sense to have a perfect deal lined up with a huge talent who is keen to join us and walk away over about £10m which is less than 10% of the fee and nearer like 2-3% when you look at the overall life of the contract?

I'm not saying whatever they ask but not sure this is a here's our best offer or we walk away type negotiation.

Ye it's a bit odd. Not saying Cherki isn't a good player and maybe he'll go on to be great but there's only one winner at the moment and the valuations of the players clearly indicates that. For the fee being discussed though id say the Cherki deal does look like a bit of a bargain for City. But totally expect Wirtz to outperform him in their careers and possibly by some considerable distance.
