So Wirtz left then cause Ekitike has to start.

Wirtz left with license to drift inside, VVD / Grav covering LB and Kerkez bombing on to create width would work IMO.

We need Szob in the team. I maintain that he's by no means our most technical player (certainly hasn't shown it since his very early time here) but his energy is so important. Like Kuyt but better.

It feels like we've traded a central midfielder for an attacker by replacing Wirtz with Szob and it's created this imbalance.

Unless Szob plays LW?

Good thing is, we have started slow, but we have still won our opening two games.

As much as I hate the internationals, it will give game time to our players without us having to worry about their form.

If we can come back after the break and still churn out results, we will be looking good.

I’d actually put Wirtz as false 9 and Ekitike left, but neither seem to be able to complete 90 mins atm.

It’s a great problem to have though.

I just don't see Wirtz played LF. And I'm really not sure it would work anyway, he'd come infield looking to influence the game and the entire left side of the team would be left to Kerkez. Grav would naturally get pulled across to help cover and we'd have the nearest thing we have to a DM pulled out from the centre of the park.

Szobo did played LW/F a fair few times for RBL apparently so maybe that could be an option but we still lose his energy from the centre of the park.

I think we'll rotate a lot and keep all 4 fresh. I suspect the starting line ups will the opponent dependent but I'd say if we were playing the CL final tomorrow and everyone is fit, Szobo is on the bench and our midfield is Grav, AMA, Wirtz.

Wonderful problem for Slot to have though.

Wirtz will not be played on the left, it’s just not going to happen unless we have an injury crisis. I actually don’t know why it keeps getting mentioned.

Let’s have our playmaker tracking back to cover Kerkez shall we? No.

Covering Kerkez is going to be an issue through the season I feel.

Isn't him drifting away from the number 9 what makes him so difficult to track, which would be somewhat nullified if he played LW?

Also, that means Ekitike having to defend and support Kerkez, not sure I see that.

Yeah, it’s an issue. Think he’d be absolutely fine in an attacking sense, but not suited to covering Kerkez.

Slot’s definitely going to earn his big bucks this season.
